2 Success Criteria What I’m Looking For Success Criteria COULD SHOULD MUST MUST be able to measure angles SHOULD understand the rules of bearings COULD understand how to calculate back bearings What I’m Looking For SELF MANAGERS – how can you keep your focus? what information do you know already? how are you trying to achieve your goal? CREATIVE THINKERS – everything is possible

5 Bearings Bearings are a measure of direction taken from North. If you were travelling North you would be travelling on a bearing of 000°. If you were travelling from the point P in the direction shown by the arrow then you would be travelling on a bearing of 000°. If you were travelling from the point P in the direction shown by the arrow then you would be travelling on a bearing of 075°. N 75° P Bearings are always measured clockwise from North and are written as three figures.

9 Back bearings The bearing from point A to point B is 105º. What is the bearing from point B to point A? A N 105º B N ? The angle from B to A is 105º + 180º = 285º This is called a back bearing. 105º 180°
