2. Grunnskóli Snæfellsbæjar  School for pupils aged 6-16 years old  Primary and lower secondary school  All pupils have the right to attend the school – disabled as well as others  There are 258 pupils in the school on 3 different locations

School year  Students have to attend school for 180 days between the 20th of August until the 6th of June  Teachers have to work 193 days each school year  Holidays 2013 – 2014:  Christmas: 20th of December – 3rd of January  Easter holidays: 11th of April– 22nd of April  Winter break 3 days: 24th, 25th and 28th of October

7. Grænfáninn (the green flag) The school has been awarded “the green flag” as a reward for our environmental and self-sustaining work

8. Átthagafræði (Local Region Education) One of our main points of focus is teaching our pupils about our Community; its history, nature and possibilities for the future. Within that work we try to work as much „hands-on“ as possible, going on field trips to gather information or get to know places of interest in Snæfellsbær. This is a special subject in our school, which is not common in Icelandic schools.

15. Last but not least The school is currently working its tenth year since being established, formed when three schools were united as one. We are always developing most aspects of our work, as we are still making our identity. Among the subjects that we are working on are, exams and evaluation, added teamwork among pupils, the curriculum of our school and self-evaluation, being done by pupils, staff and parents. We are focused on our aim, which is to make “our good school even better!” We see this Comenius-project as a step in that direction!
