history map containers recycling Waste Recycling

Beginnings -Start of modern recycling HISTORY home As industrial societies began to produce ever-growing quantities of garbage, recycling became very important. Rather than recycling materials only for economic reasons, communities began to think about how to reduce the waste stream to landfills and incinerators. Around 1970 the environmental movement caused the creation of America's first kerbside collection schemes, though it was another 20 years before such programmes really took off.

Modern system of recycling in the EU HISTORY home 1. WASTE PRODUCTION PREVENTION Behave to make less waste. 2. RE-USE Do not throw useless things away. Try to find another way to use it. 3. MATERIAL UTILIZATION Recycle waste in households, produce new commodity out of it. 4. DIFFERENT USE Make energy out of residual waste. 5. ELIMINATION Store only inert waste to landfills.

glass CONTAINERS home white containers are only for transparent glass and green containers are for the rest of glass products - YES: glass bottles, glass jars, glass shards, plate glasses - NO: wired glass, automotive glass, ceramics, china, mirrors, bulbs

paper CONTAINERS home blue container - YES: cartons, corrugated cardboards, office papers, newspapers, magazines, books, notebooks, flyers - NO: paper bags, used paper napkins, oil papers, tracing papers, parchment

textiles CONTAINERS home the most used is a white container but there are also orange or yellow ones - YES: clean, undamaged clothes - NO: dirty, damaged clothes

plastic CONTAINERS home yellow container -YES: PET bottles, plastic packaging films - NO: plastic crucibles, chemically contaminated plastics (like oils etc.)

biowaste CONTAINERS home brown container -YES: leaves, grass, weed, the rest of flowers and fruits and vegetables, tea bags, coffee grounds, sawdust - NO: oils, bones, meat, skin, dead animals, excrements of carnivorous animals, contaminated sawdust, every non-biodegradable waste

electronic waste CONTAINERS home Electronic waste has different rules of recycling. Retired electronic products are possible to give back to the seller of it. There are little boxes for batteries as a part of each electrical shop -YES: batteries, accumulators - NO: bulbs

glass RECYCLING home - The main thing is separation - The next separation is done on the sorting line – glasses are aftersorted by types of it - From the glass is removed impurity from supplementary materials - Glass is crushing for a millimeter shards. Removing impurity – hand works, magnetic, laser and optic separators, purge. - Single-type shards are the result of the basic part of the recycling process RECYCLED PRODUCTS - Drinking glass + other glass products like vases and other glass decorations - So-called foamglass (heat insulating proprieties)

paper RECYCLING home - The Paper is pressing in huge packets - Paper is getting on the conveyor belt. Sometimes hand sorted (cause of non-recyclable wastes) - Paper is moved from the belt to the mill machine- paper is soaking and mixing about quarter of an hour in the lukewarm water - Arises a unsightly mash- metal removing (buckles and terminals) - by magnetic way - Decontamination. Removing of inks and dyes- the air is pumping into the mash – bubbles, the dyes are captured onto it. Bubbles like mousse are removed- mousse is safely eliminated. RECYCLED PRODUCTS - Notebooks, magazines, newspapers, flyers, books, cardboards, paper packaging, pasteboards

plastic RECYCLING home - On the conveyor belt there are selected the PETs, packed films and solid hollow plastics. - Crushing and milling – in the crushers to small flakes – perfect wash in the water - Smelting/creating of the mixture- injection to metal forms. RECYCLED PRODUCTS - Noise barriers along the highways, plastic roofing, windows, silicon thread – special PET bottles, car interiors, padding of sleeping bags and jackets, fleece sweatshirt, padding of featherbed and coatings, plastic bottles again

biowaste RECYCLING home - Biowaste from plant maintenance- storage, handover to farmer, temporary storage, …, handover for processing - Biowaste from the gardens- home composting, storage in the forest, on the outskirts, field, to containers for municipal waste, …, collection of biowaste for processing - Biowaste from household – home composting, to containers for municipal waste, …, system of collecting and transport the equipment for processing. RECYCLED PRODUCTS - Ecological fertilizer - Energetic purposes (biomass combustion)

electronic waste RECYCLING home - First every device is hand disassembled to single parts - Then single parts are processed by types. - Retired electronics are dismantled. - There is also a mechanic processes – with the help of crusher – on the line are taking away the big pieces. The rest – crushed – sprinkled by liquid nitrogen – freezing – crushing up for powder or dust.
