List of the Planets: 1.The Sun 2. Mercury 3. Venus 4. Earth 5. Mars 6. Jupiter 7. Saturn 8. Uranus 9. Neptune 10. Pluto

The Sun: Review other planets  The purpose of the sun is to provide light and heat to other planets, as well as emitting charged particles.  The sun is the largest object in the solar system.  The sun is made up of the elements hydrogen and helium.

Mercury: http://wwww.childrensmuseum.org/cosmicque st/fieldguide/images/mercury.jpg  Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.  Mercury has been visited by only one spacecraft in 1974. http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/images/ mercury.gif  Mercury is also an element on the periodic table of elements. Click for more planets.

Venus:  This planet is named after the roman goddess of love and beauty.  Sometimes Venus is called Earth’s sister planet because of their similarity in size and gravity.  The lowest temperature ever recorded on Venus is 47.8 degrees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Venus-real.jpg Click here to go back to the other planets.

The Earth: Click here to see other planets.  The Earth is the fifth largest of the nine planets.  Earth is the only place known to support life.  The Earth is made out of mostly Nitrogen; oxygen is next. http://www.3dnworld.com/users/1/images/UltimateEarth.jpg

Mars:  Named after the Roman god of war.  Has the highest known mountain range.  Has two moons which orbit it. Click on the large planet to view other planets. http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/space/mars/images/lifeonmars.jpg

Jupiter:  The largest planet within the solar system besides the sun.  Jupiter is the third brightest object in the night sky behind the moon and Venus.  Jupiter is primarily made of hydrogen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jupiter.jpg Click here to view more planets.

Saturn: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/145/396130638_dbf0ea633d.jpg  The second largest planet in the solar system.  Saturn has rings consisting of ice particles.  Sixty-One moons orbit Saturn. Click on the picture to view more planets.

http://static.rbytes.net/fullsize_sc reenshots/t/h/the-modern-planet- uranus-screensaver.jpg Uranus:  Uranus is the third largest planet.  Uranus was the first planet discovered by a telescope. Uranus has rings similar to Saturn, they are just harder to see.  Revolves, or goes around the sun every 84 years. Click on the lightning to see other planets.

Neptune: http://www.ancientsuns.com/space-facts/solar-system/planet-neptune.jpg  Named after the Roman god of the sea.  Discovered on September 23, 1846.  Visited by only one spacecraft, the Voyager 2. Click on the Circle!

http://philanthropy.blogspot.com/uploaded_images/pluto-planet_big-773515.jpg Pluto:  Pluto is actually no longer known as a planet but as a member of the Kuiper belt.  Composed of mostly rock and ice.  Pluto was the last of the original planets. It was discovered in 1930.
