4 IPEK energy GmbH We are an independent engineering & consultancy company support you from acquisition to turnkey ready construction of renewable power generation systems world wide offer skilful support with international financing and after commissioning take the technical business management are very flexible and act in close cooperation with our clients exactly to the requirements of the international markets

5 Key Services Engineering & Consulting acquire suitable sites design of whole wind farm (micro-siting, electrical, civil) complete permitting procedures negotiate required Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) organize international funding supervision of construction till take over of the plan control operations management Wind Measuring standard IEC confirm measuring trough Wind Mast and SODAR measuring Bankable Feasibility Studies Due Diligence Emissions Trading

6 Osman Ipek – Managing Director Electrical Engineer (Main Branch Renewable Energies) Active in Wind Branch since 2000 project development project management project implementation engineering due diligence measurement and monitoring systems wind resource assessment teaching and education, concepts; strategies; system layout 18 Wind farm Projects realized More than 800MW projects developed in 6 countries Due Diligence of more than 220MW wind projects Feasibility studies for more than 40 wind farms Currently on going Projects of >400MW in Turkey, Romania and Pakistan

7 Countries of Work Experience

8 Membership/ Partners Memberships Partners German Wind Energy Association The Association of German Engineers Pakistan Wind Energy Association WINDTEST Grevenbroich GmbH

9 Company Profile Wind energy - an introduction Steps to install a wind farm Selection of wind turbines Selected wind turbine for ZORLU: VENSYS Project implementation

10 A wind turbine obtains its power input by converting the force of the wind into a torque acting on the rotor blades The amount of energy which the wind transfers to the rotor depends - on the density of the air - the rotor area - and the wind speed. In other words you can get more energy: - the "heavier" the air - the “bigger” the rotor - the “higher” the wind speed How does it work

11 690V Components of a Wind Turbine

12 Components of Wind Turbine

13 Company Profile Wind energy - an introduction Steps to install a wind farm Selection of wind turbines Selected wind turbine for ZORLU: VENSYS Project implementation

14 12 Steps to install a wind farm 1. WIND ASSESSMENT... available wind data will be used to estimate how much energy the wind farm will produce. 2. WIND FARM DESIGN Wind data combined with topographical information to design the wind farm..... to model wind flow,... turbine performance... sound levels... to optimize the location of WTG... design the access roads... turbine foundations... local electric network... grid connection

15 3. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY... to identify any impacts on landscape, plants and wildlife, soil and water, land use, aviation, telecommunications, etc. 4. LAND ACQUISITION... to negotiate “option” agreements to use land 5. PERMITTING AND PUBLIC CONSULTATION... seek municipal, provincial and federal permits before the project can go ahead.... meet the local communities to present the project, solicit their feedback and seek community support. 12 Steps to install a wind farm

16 6. ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS … demonstration of the economic viability of the project to raise the funds … estimate the cost of turbines and their installation, as well as roads, electrical system, operation and maintenance, etc.... estimate the income by using the energy production of the wind farm over the lifetime of the project 7. MANUFACTURING WTG parts are manufactured and pre-assembled into the main components at the factory and shipped to the wind farm site where the final assembly will take place. 12 Steps to install a wind farm

17 8. SITE PREPARATION The wind farm site will be prepared before the WTG will arrive to site.... access roads, clear the areas where turbines will be erected... preparation of the foundations (do the excavating; installing the formworks; pouring concrete) 9. CONSTRUCTION After arrival of all components, the assembly can take place by using a crane to erect the tower and install the nacelle and rotor with its hub and blades. Same time the electrical works will be performed 12 Steps to install a wind farm

18 10. COMMISSIONING The wind farm will tested before becoming fully operational. 11. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE A variety of skill sets are required to ensure the effective operation of a Wind Farm (activities be performed on a regular basis throughout the project’s, monitoring and analyzing performance, performing preventive maintenance and repairs on the turbines) 12. ….. 12 Steps to install a wind farm visit Hall 1 – A36

19 Steps from LOI to Implementation

20 Company Profile Wind energy - an introduction Steps to install a wind farm Selection of wind turbines Selected wind turbine for ZORLU: VENSYS Project implementation

21 On Site Wind Measuring (example)

22 Compliance with the site wind conditions Specific costs (e. g. costs per kWh) Readiness of supplier to offer turbines Commitment to the market Delivery time Warranties: power curve, availability, grid compliance Completeness of technical documentation Track record of WTG model Company: position in market, financial strength, etc. Operation and Maintenance concept Crane availability Selection Criteria for Wind Turbines

23 Different size of WTGs / Cost per kW WTG: 1MW, 70m hub WTG: 2MW, 100m hub

24 Large wind farm vs. smal wind farm Source: www.awea.org

25 Selection Criteria for Wind Turbines Availability of 400t cranes is higher than 600t  WTG <2MW should be selected for Pakistan

26 Company Profile Wind energy - an introduction Steps to install a wind farm Selection of wind turbines Selected wind turbine for ZORLU: VENSYS Project implementation

27 No Gearbox Synchronous Generator Self Cooling No Pitch gear Selected Wind Turbine: VENSYS

28 Generator is fully encased (protected against dust/sand) Generator & Cooling system

29 Maintenance friendly No Crane needed AC Pitch motor Capacitor instead Batteries Less maintenance

30 Compliance with the site wind conditions Specific costs (e. g. costs per kWh) Readiness of supplier to offer turbines Commitment to the market Delivery time Warranties: power curve, availability, grid compliance Completeness of technical documentation Track record of WTG model Company: position in market, financial strength, etc. Operation and Maintenance concept Crane availability Selection Criteria for Wind Turbines - the shortest delivery time comparing to other - OK - optimal - OK – Less maintenance - OK for 400t crane
