3 Some History Some History 1 st January 1946:Atomic Energy Research Establishment formed on RAF Harwell by John Cockcroft Flight from Harwell Operation Market Garden Sep 1944 1957:National Institute for Research in Nuclear Science (NIRNS) formed to operate the Rutherford High Energy Laboratory. 600 MeV proton linac transferred to RHEL 1964:Nimrod (weak focussing) 7 GeV proton synchrotron starts operation

6 Some History Some History 1975:Merged with Atlas Computer Laboratory to form Rutherford Laboratory 1977/78:NINA and Nimrod both closed 1974:Design study for EPIC: 14 GeV e+e- collider – PETRA built instead 1979:Merged with Appleton Laboratory to form Rutherford Appleton Laboratory 1980:SRS starts at DL: first dedicated light source 1985:ISIS starts at RAL

12 Status of EUROnu Status of EUROnu 29/48 th finished! Converging on baselines Important as we need to worry about  costing  safety  technical risks How to do this (i.e. resources) is still to be solved Bottom line: EUROnu is going well!

13 Annual Report #2 Annual Report #2 A lot was learnt from #1! #2 has gone much more smoothly:  Technical information completed on time  some WP too short, some too long  result is a bit uneven  Financial information:  most on time, last few ~2 weeks late  last Form C only arrived yesterday Technical review delayed
