Making the most of experiences  UW Medical center – Student A UW Medical center – Student A  "I mainly work as a patient escort and transport patients in wheelchairs and sometimes deliver things like specimen." "I mainly work as a patient escort and transport patients in wheelchairs and sometimes deliver things like specimen."  When and for how long: Started in winter 2014 and have been there for three quarters  Provider contact: I don't have much contact with medical care providers. Most contact I have are with nurses about questions about patient transportation.  Patient & community contact: I have contact with patients and their family during transportation. I would need to confirm with them where they are going and explain how we are going to get there.

Making the most of experiences  UW Medical Center – Student B UW Medical Center – Student B  Liked best: This was my first experience being in an environment where I was given responsibility of providing service to patients. Back in high school I was a really shy and quiet person, but volunteering as an escort forced me to be proactive and initiate conversations with patients and visitors in order to provide excellent service. Patient interaction was also a really eye opening experience. Being able to talk to patients span a wide range of backgrounds as well as handle stressful situations dealing with patient management are definitely skills that can be learned. I think this personal growth, in addition to being able to observe the mechanics of how one of the best hospitals in our nation come together, is really great.
