7 An impression The application Carpool matching logarithm 2 1 Passenger - matched Driver - matched

8 Questions ?

9 Back up pages Process Overview Matching logic Commuter Trip Match Model explained

10 Process Overview User submits on-line Trip Registration form including: origin and destination addresses (partial address logic) contact information EM e-mail address required but private until used to contact other users telephone numbers / SMS optional schedule additional descriptive information desired user id (uniqueness check) and password e-mail (is validated and verified using confirmation code and link) User is shown match list with user-adjustable search controls User contacts matched commuters via e-mail, telephone or SMS Commuting mode survey permits reporting and analysis

11 The Match List Basic filters: In-group only / public Driver/Passenger/Either Smoker, Gender Trip Ranges and Ordering Maximums of Distance between Origins Distance between Destinations Combined Origin and Destination Distance Detour Distance for User to Pick Up Matched Commuter Detour Distance for Matched Commuter to Pick Up User Time Flexibility at Origin and Destination Choice of Column for Primary Sequencing

12 Commuter Trip Match Model o B = Distance Between Origins o D = Distance Between Destinations o B + D = Combined Origin and Destination Distance o (B + C + D) – A = User’s Detour * o (B + A + D) – C = Potential Match’s Detour * * Patented Features Potential Match’s Home User’s Home Potential Match’s Work User’s Work D A C B carpoolworld uses an data model and simplified spherical trigonometry to provide fast and accurate matches with high precision distance computations. Straight-line geometry is more appropriate for carpool matching than street-wise navigation because walking distances for B and D are much more relevant indicators of proximity than automobile navigational distance, especially when considering neighborhood parks, one-way streets, or urban pedestrian areas.
