2. Procedure 1. Work on scrap paper to develop your idea. Focus on composition using the entire sheet of paper. You will find big and bold, bright and colorful designs work best. 2. Some good ideas for subject matter include architecture, shapes, animals, fish, birds and flowers. 3. 4. Apply thick even color with the crayons. Where you would like a black line to separate areas of color, leave the paper white. ( if you need large areas of black or white, you need to apply crayon) Kalina MerkelClarissa FairbanksErika Wilcox

5. Coloring complete? Take your drawing to the sink, run it under cold water, crumple it up and straighten it out on a drawing board. Apply a coat of black tempera with a wide brush—rinse your brush. GENTLY begin wiping off the paint

6. Finishing Once you have wiped the black tempera off, find a spot to let your batik dry on the board. Then, take your batik off the board and apply a thin coat of gloss medium. After that, let your batik dry and then it is ready to be turned in. Zack Bauder
