3. Election Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860 He was elected to the Illinois General Assembly. On the ballot in North Carolina Lincoln wasn’t a nominee cause most North Carolinians didn’t like him. 4. Gettysburg Address President Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. It was 272 words and took 3 minutes to give the speech. “… That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that is government of the people, by the people, for the people, that shall not parish from this earth.” This was part of his speech.
