3. Educational Experience Worked as technology teacher in Springfield for 5 years. School characteristics: –Urban setting –Middle School 6-8 –Diverse student population –Technology rich learning environment Responsible for: –Teaching 6th grade computers –Maintaining the school network –Professional Development Workshops –Facilitating the integration of technology into the curriculum

4. Educational Technology What does this term call to mind? How do you envision using technology in K-12 classrooms? Do you need specific qualities, characteristics or traits to successfully use technology in the classroom?

Philosophy Based upon experience and collaboration with practitioners Way to think about using technology in the classroom and be mindful of existing limitations (personal, facility, school district) Focuses on becoming comfortable with technology in the classroom and being skilled at selecting the appropriate tool Concentrates on building capacity and learning to seamlessly integrate technology into the curriculum and standards-based lessons.

7. Low Level Educators use the available technology resources as an organizational tool. Materials, created using various software programs, are used to enhance the classroom structure and/or traditional lesson plans. Technology use is driven by the teacher. Students are not involved in creating, producing, or publishing works on the computer or with technology.

8. Medium Level Educators use available technology for organizational purposes and strive to integrate tools into the curriculum. Technology is infused into classroom practices. Materials, created using various software programs, are linked to standards-based lessons and projects. Students are provided opportunities to work with technology. They are involved in creating, producing, or publishing works on the computer.

9. High Level Technology is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum and classroom culture. Technology tools are used along with traditional educational materials to enhance the learning experience. Together, educators and students create, produce, or publish works on the computer.

10. Classroom Application The three levels of integration correspond to the colors on a Stop Light. –Red is low integration –Yellow is medium integration –Green is high integration There are no negative values assigned to the color. The light continuously move through a cycle and alters the speed of motorists.

11. Differentiated Model Based upon Carol A. Tomlinson’s work with Talented and Gifted learners in diverse learning environments. Description: –Curriculum differentiation is not a curriculum or a program. It is a process that enables teachers to improve student learning by matching students' individual learning characteristics to the curriculum. Differentiation requires teachers to anticipate and acknowledge the differences in each student's readiness, interests, and learning styles.
