LET’S REVIEW! What Are Fractions?
2
Let’s look at a pizza to understand more! 12 45 3 6
3
Adding fractions So, now let’s add two fractions together! 6/6-1/6 =?
4
Let’s do another! Look closely at this one! Try it on your own and then turn to your neighbor and see what they got! 1/2+ 1/7=?
5
To solve this problem we need to find the….. Least Common Multiple (LCM) But how do we do this?
6
Let’s go through all the factors for the Denominators 2: 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20…. 7: 7,14,21,28,35,42,49… Do they have any numbers in common? Which is the least? (LCM) 14!
7
So if we make the new denominator 14, we have to change the numerators too. Let’s do this together Old: 1/2+1/7 New: 7/14+ 2/14 Now we can solve this easily! What is the answer?
8
Finding the LCM is key in solving fraction problems with unlike denominators! You use this method for subtracting fractions too! Let’s try more!
