ASSIGNMENT 3

I think that additional convenience outlets are needed in this location. The people seen in the photo are gathered here to use the only available outlet nearby to charge their electrical devices. A good solution would be a charging station with several convenience outlets. CONVENIENC E RECEPTACLE 1 Houston Airport, Houston, TX Charging laptops Charging IPad Receptacle located on column behind chair

The photo shows a duplex floor outlet. It is likely used to plug in cleaning equipment. It would seem to be very useful because it is located in an open space with few walls to house outlets. FLOOR OUTLET 2 George Bush International Airport, Houston, TX

This GFCI is located in the restroom to protect people from electrical shock when using electrical devices such as hair dryers or curling irons. The outlet is mounted 37” (o.c.) above the floor. GFCI OUTLET 3 Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA 37”

This 240 volt outlet is located approximately 40” above the floor at Hollywood International Airport. I believe it may have been used for equipment that is no longer located there. 240 VOLT OUTLET 4 Hollywood International Airport, Hollywood, FL

This electrical panel is located in my garage. It controls the power for my entire home. ELECTRICA L PANEL 5 My home, Miramar, FL

In order for a wall sconce to be ADA compliant it must be mounted 6’-8” or higher from the floor and project no more than 4” inches to allow a person to safely pass beneath it. This sconce meets those requirements. ADA SCONCE 6 BJ’s Brewery Restaurant, Pembroke Pines, FL

This junction box is used to house all of the wiring for a lighting fixture mounted on a ceiling or wall. JUNCTION BOX 7 Home Depot, Miramar, FL

The rocker plate switch is located at the entry of a hotel room. It is appropriate. The programmable and slide dimmer switches were operable displays at Home Depot. They can be used in residential and commercial settings where a variety of lighting levels is desired. They can also greatly reduce energy usage. 3 TYPES OF SWITCHES 8 Rocker plate Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA Programmable Home Depot, Miramar, FL Slide dimmer Home Depot, Miramar, FL

This photo shows direct or discomfort glare. Sunlight is the light source and it is within my field of vision in the photo. It was difficult to look at the camera while taking this photo due to the glare. GLARE 9 BJ’s Brewery Restaurant, Pembroke Pines, FL

This airport takes great advantage of natural daylight. They have windows on almost every exterior wall to allow light to penetrate the building. In addition, they have also used primarily white wall finishes allowing the light to be reflected throughout the space. DAY- LIGHTING 10 Clearstory windows George Bush International Airport, Houston, TX Large windows

The daylight in this hotel room is controlled by drapery. It is needed for comfort and to reduce glare. The sheer drapery panels filter out a small portion of the daylight, while the heavy blackout drapes prevent all daylight from entering the room. The drapes are effective. DAY- LIGHTING CONTROL 11 Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA

The luminaire in this photo utilizes a transformer to step down the voltage. LUMINAIRE 12 My home, Miramar, FL Transformer

The floor in this corridor is lit with several blue LED lights. LED LIGHTING 13 Houston Airport, Houston, TX Hard Rock Hotel, San Diego, CA

The ambient lighting in the photo is provided by the recessed light and floor lamp. Task lighting is provided by a table lamp at the desk. Accent lighting is provided by the pendant lighting over the bar area. 3 LEVELS OF LIGHTING 14 Task Lighting Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA Ambient Lighting Accent Lighting Ambient Lighting

The lights shown in the photo emit a cool color quality. They are clearly fluorescent light sources. COOL COLOR QUALITY 15 George Bush International Airport, Houston, TX

This occupancy sensor is located in the restroom. The sensor controls the courtesy or “nightlight”. The courtesy light gives the user just enough light to find their way around the restroom and navigate to the light switch itself. OCCUPANCY SENSOR 16 Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA Courtesy light Flashing sensor

This emergency light fixture is located in the corridor of a hotel. It is capable of sending visual (flashing light) as well as audible emergency information. The flashing light is highlighted in the photo on the right. EMERGENC Y LIGHTING FIXTURE 17 Palomar Hotel, San Diego, CA

I think that this restroom is appropriately lit. There are recessed lights throughout the space as well as adequate fluorescent lighting in each stall. APPROPRIATELY LIT RESTROOM 18 Hard Rock Hotel, San Diego, CA

The home appliance that uses the most energy is a refrigerator. HOME APPLIANCE 19 Cambridge Academy, Pembroke Pines, FL

The data outlet in the photo is mounted on a public internet station at Hollywood Airport. An ethernet port as well as electrical receptacles are visible. It doesn’t seem to be very useful as I did not witness anyone using the space and most people access the internet using the airport Wi-Fi. DATA OUTLET 20 Hollywood International Airport, Hollywood, FL
