Terrestrial Biodiversity By Ayesha Fazal, Malaika Chaudary and S.Aimen Gillani

Terrestrial Ecosystem Biodiversity is not evenly distributed, rather it varies greatly across the globe as well as within regions. Among other factors, the diversity of all living things bio data depends on temperature, precipitation, altitude, soils, geography and the presence of other species. The study of the spatial distribution of organisms, species, and ecosystems, is the science of biogeograpphy.

Terrestrial Ecosystem

Diversity consistently measures higher in the tropics and in other localized regions such as the Cape Floristic Region and lower in polar regions generally.

Biodiversity In Terrestrial Ecosystem Terrestrial biodiversity is up to 25 times greater than ocean biodiversity. Although a recent discovered method put the total number of species on Earth at 8.7 million of which 2.1 million were estimated to live in the ocean, however this estimate seems to under- represent diversity of microorganisms.

Threats to Terrestrial Biodiversity On land Human activities e.g cutting of trees urbinization etc are major threats to terrestrial biodiversity.

Loss of Biodiversity

Effects of pollution on biodiversity

Our Approach After all this literature review we as researchers decided to start survey of terrestrial ecosystem. So we started survey of terrestrial system of our own college. We observed plants and animals that is biodiversity of back side ground.

Survey

Plants surveyed

Name of plants being observed Cannabis sativa Euphorbia Helioscopia Helianthus anus Grass Spp. Cassia spp. Lactuca serriola L. Mentha royleana L.

Name of animals being observed Butterflies Moths Beetles Ants Eathworms Snails Caterpillars locust

Possible threats to our college ground ecosystem Sweepers cut many plants which are edible Most waste is dumped there as that is at the back of the college. Some people use wood of that area for different purposes. As a result of all these activities that ecosystem is declining day by day..

Completion of survey After completion of our survey we will get it checked by our teacher and will again use online tools for conservation of terrestrial Ecosystem.

Possible Solutions We will first of all clean all the garbage by taking the help of sweepers What ever biodiversity is currently present we will try to conserve it by awareness to the public. We Will give awareness to the college lower staff not to cut different plants from there for their use.

Possible Solutions We will make students aware of the Importance of biodiversity not to put garbage there. We will request the college authorities to assign duty to some Mali for maintaining this ground.
