3 What is Stress?

4 Stress: Physical and mental strain put onto the body through your internal and external environment.

5 What makes YOU stress? School Work Relationships Family Future Plans Athletics

6 Is all stress negative? Is there such a thing a positive stress? No, all stress is not negative. Yes, there is such a thing as positive stress! So.. what is Positive Stress?

7 Positive effects of Stress: Also known as Eustress. Eustress: Stress that is deemed healthful or giving one the feeling of fulfillment. Examples: feeling motivated to finish a project What you feel when your about to ride an exciting ride Exercise feeling motivated to finish a project What you feel when your about to ride an exciting ride Exercise

8 Negative effects of Stress: Also called Distress. Distress : Can suppress your immune system leaving you more prone to illness. It can also affect the relationships you have with family and friends.

9 Symptoms of Distress: Lack of concentration Difficulty sleeping Irritability Upset stomach Tension

10 Teen Stress Develops as young adults learn to cope with new demands and pressures. Teen stress often leads to depression and sometimes to a more serious problem—Suicide.

12 How to manage stress: Take a break! When you start to feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and step away from the situation. A small break will allow you to clear your head and make room for new ideas.

13 Get Plenty of rest and sleep! When resting: Blood pressures lowers Heart rate slows Muscles relax

14 Physical Activity Go for a walk or a light jog! Exercise causes a release of endorphins. Endorphins allow us to feel less pain and feel fewer negative affects from stress. Exercise will also help control your weight & strengthen your heart! Exercise will also help control your weight & strengthen your heart!

15 Time Management STOP procrastinating! Keep a list: Write down what you need to do. Put the list in order of importance or when it is due and start!

16 Develop Friendships Friends allow you to share feelings and experiences without being judged. Friends are good for listening and can offer advice that can help ease stress.

17 Talk with parents and other trusted adults Your parents/guardians have your best interest at heart and will listen to whatever is causing you stress. Other trusted adults such as a school guidance counselor is also willing to listen and give advice.

18 Helping Others Helping people who are less fortunate will allow you to see that your stressful situation is not as bad as it seems. Get involved: Raise money for charity Become a Big Brother or Big Sister Volunteer

19 Have a sense of humor Laugh out Loud! Relaxes and lowers: Heart Rate Blood Pressure Tension HAHA! GREAT WAY TO RELEAVE STRESS!
