2 The Nexus The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education uses the term, the Nexus to refer to the true integration of health systems and education. By reconnecting education and practice into an integrated ‘Nexus,’ those partnerships can: Help improve the experience of both patients and learners Share responsibility for improving the health of populations as well as the quality of education And reduce costs and add value in health care delivery and health professions education Refer also to the “Video Introduction” section on page 11 of the Amina in the Nexus Resource and Facilitation Guide. 8 The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education: Goal
To provide the leadership, evidence and resources needed to guide the nation on the use of interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) as a way to enhance the experience of health care, improve population health and reduce the overall cost of care. Provide an overview of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Explain that the National Center can help participants and their communities transform their health care and educational systems. The purpose of the National Center is to: Co-create and evaluate models that reconnect education and collaborative practice across the United States and show the impact on enhanced quality of care, improved population health and decreased cost Increase the availability of evidence about the effectiveness of interprofessional education and collaborative practice in achieving the Triple Aim Lead and facilitate national dialogue among education and health care about the potential of the Nexus to help achieve the Triple Aim. Create a profile: Add a resource: Start a conversation: Go social: Explain that the National Center invites individuals and organizations to actively participate in the effort to connect health care and education into a Nexus in their communities. To do that, encourage them to: Visit nexusipe.org Create an account Join the online conversations Take advantage of the many resources (tools, literature, webinars) on the Resource Exchange Contribute their own tools and literature, and participate in the forum to learn with, about and from others in the community.
