3 Consumption The Masterchef spin-off including celebrity Masterchef and junior Masterchef, have allowed for the program to relate to different age groups, gender, ethnicity and sexuality. Different cultural dishes Product placement Qantas is a contra partner to MasterChef, providing the flights that help the program get made in exchange for a decent whack of air time. No cash changes hands (we're told), but the dollar value is very real.

4 Heroes and Mythology The heroes in Masterchef can be the contestants that the consumers can relate to and develop a bond with. This para social interaction forms an emotional response from the audience. For example throughout the competition the consumer may idolise a particular contestant and follow them right through till the end of the competition. The winner receives a chef training from leading professional chefs, the chance to have their own cookbook published, and $100,000 in cash It represents that gender stereotypes are broken to an extent in regards to the typically feminine activity of cooking. Thus the individuals who win the competition are seen to have enormous power and benefit from their rewards. Another hero can be seen as the judges. They have authority and power over the contestants. Restaurateur and Chef Gary Mehigan, Chef George Calombaris and food critic Matt Preston serve as the show's main judges.
