4 Have we moved on in the last 30 years ? If I’d been a man, there would have been a different career path Having babies affects your career Would it be different today? Is there still a glass ceiling?

5 Where are we now?............. UK boards still made up mainly of men Diversity issue took a back seat in recession Re-emergence of “old fashioned” values View prevails that women have to choose between success as a mother or getting to the top in career

6 What do Head hunters look for? A great CV Interviews- preparation, practice, performance Focus and confidence The best person for the job The illusive WOW factor

7 What do clients look for ? Same as for men- energy, passion, technical knowledge, culture fit, commitment, ambition, positive approach WOW factor “ If she’s got where she is today, she must be good....”

8 What are companies doing ? Seeking balanced shortlists Skills to do the job, regardless of sex/colour Addressing female shortages- transferrable skills, female friendly policies Woman still seen as being better in certain functions.... Still very few female CEO’s

9 Best sectors to work in if you are female? Professional services Public sector Financial Services Retail SME’s Self employed Not manufacturing, B2B services, Industrial.....

10 Which functions have significant numbers of female managers? HR, mostly women BUT............ Business Development, Sales and Marketing mostly men Finance and IT – mostly men Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics-mostly men

11 Where do CEO’s come from? Operations- COO Finance- CFO Sales- VP Sales Very few from HR CEO’s tend to have all round “general management” experience

12 How can woman accelerate their careers? Personal and professional development Networking, Interview skills Understanding the male perspective Keep an up to date CV Projects, broaden experience, international, multi- functional, general management experience Generate confidence
