3 What would you say if… What would you say if your mom came home with blue hair? What would you say if you arrived at school wearing only your underwear? What would you say if you saw two of your classmates kissing in the bathroom? What would you say if you just won 1,000,000 US Dollars?

4 What would you say to your mom if she came home with blue hair?

5 What would you say to your friend if he/she arrived at school wearing only their underwear?

7 any place outside the Earth's atmosphere
Outer Space any place outside the Earth's atmosphere

8 Outer Space

9 Astronauts – People who go to Outer Space

10 Space Shuttle – vehicle used to fly to Outer Space

11 planets Earth

12 Our Solar System Sun – a big, hot, burning star in the middle of our solar system. 8 planets and 1 dwarf (small) planet Moons - Each planet has one or more moons. There are over 61 moons in our solar system. Asteroids – big rocky or metallic objects flying through space Comets - small, icy objects that have very long tails when they fly through space. Meteors - small rocks that travel through space. They are smaller than asteroids.

13 The Planets orbit (go around) the Sun

14 Mercury Closest planet to the Sun It has craters (big holes).
It has no atmosphere (no air).

15 Venus The atmosphere (air) is very hot
The air is made of swirling clouds of carbon dioxide (a gas). Venus is called the Evening Star.

16 Earth It is the only planet to support life as we know it.
It is the third planet from the Sun. It is made of rock and surrounded by a layer of gas called an atmosphere.

17 Mars It is called the red planet. It is most like the Earth.
It has two moons.

18 Jupiter It is the largest planet. It has a “Great Red Spot.”
It has twice as much mass as all other planets put together.

19 Saturn It has thousands of rings. It is the second largest planet.

20 Uranus It spins on a nearly horizontal axis.
It is made of gas and liquid gas. It tips on its side when it travels.

21 Neptune It has an icy moon called Triton. It is blue in color.
It is made of gas.

22 Pluto It is the smallest planet.
It is called a “dwarf” planet because it is so small. It was the last planet to be discovered.

23 Can you remember the Planets?
“My Very Excellent Mother Just Sent Us Nine Pizzas”

24 Let’s compare the Planets
The largest planet is Jupiter. It is followed by Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, and, finally, tiny Pluto. Large, Larger, Largest Small, Smaller, Smallest

25 Hottest Coldest Mercury 150°C Venus 450°C Earth 0 °C Mars (-)50°C
Jupiter (-)150°C Saturn (-)190°C Uranus (-) 250°C Neptune (-) 240°C Pluto (-) 245°C Coldest hot, hotter, hottest cold, colder, coldest

26 How to remember the planets
Mercury - My Venus - Very Earth - Eager Mars - Mother Jupiter - Just Saturn - Served Uranus - Us Neptune - Nine Pluto - Pizzas
