To prepare e-contents & videos in the area of manufacturing technology courses for UG & PG students & Industry users at DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University VARANASI 221005 (2009) P.I: DR. SANTOSH KUMAR, Professor A Project Submitted to National Mission on Education through ICT Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi INDIA on

2 BHU – 1916 : > 20000 STUDENTS (BIGGEST IN ASIA) IT - 1919 : > 2000 STUDENTS MECHANICAL- 1938: > 300 STUDENTS BIGGEST DEPTT. IN COUNTRY (88) 12 PROFESSORS – 4 DECIPLINES  2000 INDUSTRIES IN INDIA  > 2500 INSTITUTIONS X4 = 10,00000 STUDENTS PASSING EVERY YEAR   > 2000X50 = 10,000STUDENTS IN MANUFACRURING/MECHANICAL  WE ARE LARGEST NO. IN INSTITUTIONS IN WORLD  WE ARE LARGEST MGT./ SCIENTFIC POWER TO OTHER CONTRIES  WHY WE ARE WEAK IN MFG. ------- NO TRAINED MANPOWER

33 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT To design, develop and deliver e-contents and videos for Manufacturing Technology Courses for UG/PG students and Industry people. Manufacturing sector is very poor in our country due to less no. of trained & skilled people in the area. Manufacturing Technology is fast changing and therefore many new courses of UG and PG level has been need of the country. These courses will be developed by very experienced professors in the institute and across the region interactive in nature will be helpful to UG/PG students at world class standards.

4 Methodology The time bound technical, Video Lab/computational facility to develop with following methodology (i)Developing an studio for the PURWANCHAL region with the following facilities such as: (a) Camera Photography – still and video (b) Video mixing, sound mixing and dubbing (c) Recoding, editing, storage & Transmission facility. – (Require rooms, Equipments,Software & personals) (ii)Based on availability of items (i), Developing a channel of E-content and E-video development process. (to have slot based interactive, user-friendly & problem solving & suggestive, online test /examining modules) (iii)based on steps i) & ii), Developing the courses keeping world class standards and quality measures. (Content-wise, sound/picture & Video quality wise best, interruption less session) (iv)Based on iii) linking the courses to the National mission HUB. These objectives will also help our UG/PG students & Industry people to learn more and more about the Manufacturing Technology related to various sectors.

5 Deliverables year wise and its possible contribution to major objectives of mission Manufacturing is fast changing. It is experience based, practice based, skill based and Technology based. These courses are to be developed keeping the mission objectives in mind. Initially these courses may be developed: Mechanics of Metal Forming - I st year new course Technology of Metal Forming- I st year new course Computer Integrated Manufacturing - II nd year new course Technology for Competitive Manufacturing- II nd year, new course Unconventional Manufacturing Processes – III rd year new course Computer Aided Manufacturing - IV th year, new course Product Design and Development techniques etc. These courses with video and interactive aids may be developed.

6 The basic steps are: 1. Preparing course titles & Contents 2. Compilation of materials (audio, video, clips, images) for the title 3. Identify Key word and words of more information for the last users 4. Adding sound, videos & figures, industry clips, animation etc. and Editing 5. Adding Instructiveness, problem solving & suggestiveness, online test /examining modules & interfacing modules w.r.t step 3. 6. Quality control, re-editing for final version 7. Linking the courses to National Mission program.

7 Title & Content search Material collection (Adios, Video, Clips, Still photo, experience, Algorithm etc. Develop Interfaces, programs, tools to internal links of the course matter Develop user-friendlyness, interactions, suggestiveness, on-line test etc. and links Execution of simulation and analysis using above features Is the QUALITY OK/ TESTED ? LINK with the NMOECTC Models modification and recreation Implementation of e- contents

8 Importance of the Project, Quantification & likely gains The high quality courses would be used by UG/PG and Industry people all over the world. It may be sold on demand to Institutions and organizations. Possible Gains: 1. Within the reach of users (UG/PG/Industry/ technicians). 2. This will lead to further development for materials and process development in the country. Like: E-Laboratory Virtual Laboratory & Experiments Video conferencing Classes

9 National Status In India also there are various institutions and laboratories without experienced faculty members. No. of private Engineering colleges: more than 2500 No. of Other Indirect Institutions: more than 1000 No. of Industries more than 3000 Only 25000 students pass out from IIT, NIT, Govt. Engg. Colleges and Universities.
