3 Brainstorm shapes ~unusual slab vessel Objective: You will brainstorm options in order select and create a template for an unusual shape slab vessel. Dircections: 1.DIVIDE SKETCHBOOK PAGE INTO 9 SECTIONS. 2.Look at images on iPad power point for ideas. 3.Draw vessel shapes in the rectangles. Make sure they have a flat bottom. 4.Be creative. 5.Think about a form that will hold face sculptures. 6.Prob should be larger than 5 inches to hold the FACE SCULPTURES. Unusual Slab Vessel

4 Today’s goal: Create a template for a new slab piece. Must be functional. Must be an unusual shape that is not just a square/ cube or simple cylinder. Look at images. Objective: You will describe and analyze clay vessels and templates in order define and apply techniques to create a functional slab piece.

6 Think about this::: Do you want to join your face into your sculpture before your finish building it???? Where and how are you going to add 2 faces? Do you want to take a selfie for an expressive face?

DIRECTIONS: 1.STEPS TO MAKE TEMPLATE FOR SLAB VESSEL 1.Draw 6+ shapes for vessel. 2.Draw it bigger, make a paper template. 3.Make a clay face. Use video demo 4.Label and cut apart template. 5.Roll slabs, trace template. 6.Build slab vessel. 7.Attach a face on outside and cut a window for inside face (2 faces)

11 Shaun Hall Shaun Hall. My current work all stems from drawings I made whilst studying at Middlesex University. This process began with the earliest form- the “Nuclear Jug”. The initial preparatory sketches were inspired by still life studies, and the drawings all exaggerated the basic elements of the Jug form. I have been most influenced by artists, sculptors and painters- for example, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Richard Serra and Cubist painting

Inspired most notably by Surrealist painting, his figurative art presents ambiguous allegorical scenarios exploring the complex nature of the human condition, the subconscious, and the interconnectedness of all things. ​ From a young age, Palmer was driven to express his active imagination through drawings. He earned his BA in Studio Art at Humboldt State University in Arcata, where he developed a great passion for- and dedication to drawing. Enabled by his development as a draftsman, he branched out to develop his art in the areas of painting and ceramic sculpture. He also has an MFA from San Jose State University.
