5 Executive Summary There are 7 themed areas of strength for the University - roles and responsibility - job satisfaction - work environment - line management - equality and diversity - quality of service and culture - appraisal and 3 areas for improvement for the University - managing change - workload - staff involvement/communication 5

6 Results show that overall staff are positive about the University of Exeter – 88% say it is a good place to work – 86% feel proud to work for the University – 89% feel the University delivers good quality service to students/service users In comparison with 2012 – higher response rate (75% up from 55%) – positive improvements (appraisals, voicing opinions, fewer approvals, reduced feelings of discrimination) – deteriorations (not seen positive changes in last 12 months, SMT leading and managing well, job security, thinking about leaving, recommending University as place to work, feeling proud) Executive Summary 6

8 Area of Work Response Rates “ The University provided CAPITA with an assigned College or Service for each member of staff. In the survey, staff were asked to select their College or Service but it was not mandatory to do so. As a result we can see a higher than 100% response rate which is due to some staff having more than one job role/ associations based on local considerations. This is not unusual where staff may work across different work areas or operate matrix management.” 8
