3 HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX CBMS findings show that human development in Palawan is significantly improving. Cuyo registered the highest human development index. Human development is found lowest in the municipality of Española. Provincial HDI stood at about 0.491 in 1994, 0.590 in 1997, 0.698 in 2000, 0.716 in 2002, 0.770 in 2005 and 0.778 in 2008.

4 MDG Goal & Target 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger or Poverty Incidence at 12.05%, Subsistence Incidence at 12.05% and Malnutrition Rate at 13.15% by year 2015 Malnutrition Rate Malnutrition rate follows a declining trend from 22.77% in 1992 to 11.50% in 2005 and 8.00% in 2008

12 MDG Goal & Target 3: Promote Gender Equality & Empower Women or Gender Parity Index of 1 by year 2015 Literacy Rate Literacy rate increased from 69.51% in 1970 to 94.00% in 1996. In 2000 at 90.19%, 2002 at 88.19%, 92.70% in 2005 and 91.54% in 2008

13 MDG Goal & Target 3: Promote Gender Equality & Empower Women or Gender Parity Index of 1 by year 2015 GPI is declining from 0.960 in SY 2006-2007 down to 0.926 in SY 2010- 2011

14 MDG Goal & Target 4: Reduce Child Mortality or down to 10 cases of deaths per 1000 live births by year 2015 Trend in Infant Mortality Rates per 1000 Live births IMR is much lower compared with the regional average rate of 10 deaths per 1000 live births.

15 MDG Goal & Target 5: Improve Maternal Health or reduce maternal mortality rate by 3 quarters or at 20.75% per 100,000 live births by year 2015 Trend in Maternal Mortality Rates per 1000 Live births Lowest maternal mortality rate was in 2004 at 1.20 per 1000 live births. With highest increase in 2006 with 2.21 and respectively declined in 2007 with 1.43 and 2008 with 1.32.

Target of 93.96% for access to safe water supply and 100.00% access to basic sanitation by year 2015 Trends in HHs w/ Access to Safe Water Improvements to safe water over the 10 year period was recorded at 5.45%. Access to safe water supply is 22.33% in1980, 50.53% in 1993, 53.60% in 2000, 64.83% in 2002, 60.50% in 2005. and 59.05 in 2008.

19 Zone 3 & Zone 4 have better water services with 67.13% & 66.44% in 2008. NO DATA MDG Goal & Target 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability.Halve the proportion of the people w/ no access to safe drinking water & basic sanitation. Target of 93.96% for access to safe water supply and 100.00% access to basic sanitation by year 2015 Access to Safe Water by Zone Zone 1 is the most underprovided with 49.07% in 2008%.

20 Over 1970-1980, access increased by 10% from 6.65% in 1970 to 16.25% in 1980. Slight increase of 1.27% in access to improved sanitation facilities from year 2005 to 2008. MDG Goal & Target 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability.Halve the proportion of the people w/ no access to safe drinking water & basic sanitation. Target of 93.96% for access to safe water supply and 100.00% access to basic sanitation by year 2015 HHs with Access to Sanitary Toilet

21 MDG Goal & Target 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development. Make available the benefits of new technologies, especially information and communications technology in cooperation with the private sector Estimated Telecommunication Subscribers SMART subscribers is estimated to reach 180,000 while GLOBE has 150,000 subscribers in 2005.
