3. They are a diverse group in terms of culture, religion, geography, economic progress and activities, and types of government...

4. However, they do share characteristics that define them as developing nations.

5. There is no agreed upon way for geographers to designate "developed" as opposed to "developing" countries. WHAT IS A “DEVELOPING” versus a “DEVELOPED” NATION?

6. But most agree that a developing country is a country with a: relatively low standard of living, undeveloped industries, and low Human Development Index. WHAT IS A “DEVELOPING” versus a “DEVELOPED” NATION?

7. The Standard of Living refers to the quality and quantity of goods and services available to people and the way these are distributed within a population.

8. This classification is also often measured by statistics such as income per person, income inequality, and poverty rate.

9. There are other factors considered when measuring standard of living.

17. “Developing” nations’ economies rely on a few export crops; farming is conducted by primitive methods; and rapid population growth threatens the supply of food.
