2 The Vision  To adopt and maintain a professional approach towards the providing of sports to persons with disabilities within the Western Cape with references to the perspective disciplines: Intellectually Impaired Deaf Physically Disabled

3 The Mission  To enable Disability Sport to grow at all levels of participation by providing more opportunities for athletes to develop their full potential.

4 Objectives  To equally serve the three disability sport structures (II; Deaf & Physically Disabled) at school level and senior level.  To seek membership with the Provincial Sports Councils; the Western Cape Sports Forum and other sport related bodies  To coordinate; monitor and evaluate all disability sport programmes/projects within the province.  To serve as the overall controlling body on sport for people and learners with disabilities within the province.  To promote sports for athletes and persons with a disability in the province without discrimination whatsoever based on race; sexism; racialism; language and any disability backgrounds.  To promote the inclusion of athletes and persons with a disability into the non-disability sport while safeguarding and preserving their own identity.

5 Objectives  To work towards the effective and efficient strengthening of DISWEC through good governance and sound management.  To co-operate with and adhere to the directives of the Provincial Government Department of Cultural Affaires and Sport.  To liaise as the central point with the Provincial Government Department of Cultural Affaires and Sport; Abled Body Sport Federations and other NGO’s structures on all matters of sport for persons and athletes with a disability.  To ensure that the application for funding from the Provincial Government Department Of Cultural Affaires and Sport and other funding are allocated properly among all the perspective Disability Sport structures.  To ensure that the Provincial teams that are to represent the Province at National and Inter National games are properly selected at events organized annually.  To ensure that proper procedures and planning are followed before the Province can host a National Championship by any of its affiliate members/structures.

6 Background  Disability Sport Western Cape was established on the 16 May 2003; Vredenburg; at the first Unity Games for Persons with Disabilities that was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.  At these games; the three Discipline Sport structures (II; Deaf & Physically Disabled) signed the Memorandum of Agreement: -Committed themselves to promote Disability Sport amongst all the perspective affiliate members (schools/clubs).  The people that played a major role in the establishment of DISWEC were: -Mr. Bennet Bailey (Transformation & Monitoring) -Mr. Allan Boesak (Principle Sport Promoter Officer: Disability Sport)

20 Conclusion  Over the last seven years; DISWEC has reached a great deal of success through the implementation of its key strategic goals. -DISWEC has increased the level of participants. -Monitoring the Transformation Process within the Disability sectors. -Ensuring that the Disability Sport structures function optimally.
