Mapping and GIS1 Implementation of Grid technology in GIS/Remote sensing Nov 21, 2006

Mapping and GIS2 Overview of the presentation Tasks required in the project for the 1 st year Topics on geospatial data processing/analysis research Motivation Data analysis tools required based on different data format Data availability and processing capabilities Expected achievement

Mapping and GIS3 Project proposal: Grid implementation for coastal area monitoring Year I: Investigation of different coastal data format Integrate the data format with the virtual and wrapper middleware system Multi-data/model integration services, query services, and scalable data mining services Implementation of time-series analysis algorithms for forecasting and now casting application

Mapping and GIS4 Propose research topics for implementing Multi-sensor/platform data integration services Topic 1: Location independent coastal model for erosion fore casting Search for sensor data for the region – Satellite images, aerial images, maps… etc Search for relevant data sets - soil property, water level, parcel map etc  Shoreline: Shoreline change analysis (dynamic data) Water level change  DEM - water surface intersection would show the land submergence (flooding) due to rise in water level  Soil property: Water drainage, permeability conditions, soil cohesion properties  Weather parameters: Temperature, wind velocity and direction, rain/snow fall (dynamic data) A new method for DEM (Digital Elevation Model) generation based on streaming data set Find out independent factors that will affect the erosion among the above parameters Modeling of different parameter along the coast is necessary to predict regions with risk of erosion

Mapping and GIS5 Propose research topics for implementing Multi-sensor/platform data integration services Topic 2: Immediate response to a disaster situation to provide relief operation Search for sensor data acquired at particular location just before and after the event A quick aerial survey in the region can provide with aerial images or LiDAR data Data fusion/integration technique to analyze the multi-sensor/platform data Change analysis to locate worst affected areas Near- real time data processing Find out worst affected areas by a tornado/storm along the coast Coastal loss assessment

Mapping and GIS6 Propose research topics for implementing Multi-sensor/platform data integration services Topic 3: Sea grass monitoring system Coastal loss/gain assessment of sea-grass Data integration of satellite images, hyper spectral images, and LiDAR bathymetry data

Mapping and GIS7 Motivation There are different soil erosion models available Based on different aspects as a major issue  Wind influence  Water wave influence  Soil properties A model to take into account the combined effect? A versatile near-real time model considering the important parameters is required Most of the data sets required are available online but are in different format Implementation of model A near real-time system will help strategic planning and to provide relief operation

Mapping and GIS8 Analysis tools required are to be developed Different data formats: Vector (Point, line, polygon), Grid (position information in row-column structure), Image, Tin (X, Y, Z point data with links to adjecent nodes), ASCII, DWG/DXF (another form of vector data), Tabular database Different combination analysis to extract information Image: Image processing, Image fusion/integration  DEM, Orthophotos Grid: Grid processing methods, Vector-Grid processing  Change analysis Vector: Vector data analysis  Change analysis Other data sets will be used in the form of parameters for sensor model, datum conversion Tabular data in the form of coastal measurements (gauge, soil property etc)

Mapping and GIS9 Data availability and processing capabilities Data acquisition: Available on website: We need to extract the data and understand the format automatically!! Soil property data: Would be available in Shape file (Polygon features) Water level and other properties: Tabular data Weather data: Temperature Data sorting and analysis will be done using data analysis tools Datum conversion tool – The data available could be in different datum, hence, a tool to convert these data sets to a standard datum in necessary

Mapping and GIS10 Task accomplishment from proposals Processing of various data set under one platform Processing of large data sets could be possible based on data analysis techniques Data standardization (understanding the data online) DEM generation using multi-sensor model Shoreline changes and erosion detection/prediction
