99066PSA34 MULTIMASTER ACCESS ( VAN COMFORT AND CAN INTERSYSTEMS NETWORKS ) l Each electronic unit connected to the network can access the medium, that means it can initiate a message l This performing access method leads to some constraints : n access time is random according to the priority of the message n development and validation of the network are very complex n absolute synchronisation is requested during the development of the electronics (hardware release, software release, messages release...) n introduction of a new node implies a new validation due to a new message organisation, new messages priorities, new access times l Each electronic unit connected to the network can access the medium, that means it can initiate a message l This performing access method leads to some constraints : n access time is random according to the priority of the message n development and validation of the network are very complex n absolute synchronisation is requested during the development of the electronics (hardware release, software release, messages release...) n introduction of a new node implies a new validation due to a new message organisation, new messages priorities, new access times
35
99066PSA35 MASTER/SLAVE ACCESS ( VAN body network ) l Only a master node, the ISU in this configuration, can initiate a communication with one of the slave nodes connected to the network l This access method having poorer performance and being less sophisticated has nevertheless some advantages : n access time which is slower, is known and deterministic ; that is very important in term of safety n development and validation of the network can be made between the node concerned and the ISU n bus partitioning through creation of a physical sub-network by just adding a bus transceiver chip in the ISU l Only a master node, the ISU in this configuration, can initiate a communication with one of the slave nodes connected to the network l This access method having poorer performance and being less sophisticated has nevertheless some advantages : n access time which is slower, is known and deterministic ; that is very important in term of safety n development and validation of the network can be made between the node concerned and the ISU n bus partitioning through creation of a physical sub-network by just adding a bus transceiver chip in the ISU

99066PSA37 The 607 Automatic wiper sophisticated strategies l With the wipers on low speed, the side lights come on automatically after 15 seconds wiping. It is the same but after only 3 seconds of high-speed wiping l Thanks to the evaluation of light intensity, wiper speed is higher at night than during the day, and during a momentary stop at the traffic lights or for a "stop" signal, the speed is automatically reduced l After a fast wipe, a slow wipe always follows before the wipers stop l On the demand for a windscreen wash, a 2 second delay precedes the operation of the headlamp washers (to avoid wasting cleaning liquid) l When a wiper blade is changed, it is set to a maintenance position obtained by a single press on the wiper control in the minute after a wiper stops l If a wiper blade is impeded by snow or ice, the drive motor will automatically switch off after 7 seconds l With the wipers on low speed, the side lights come on automatically after 15 seconds wiping. 99066PSA38 The engine intelligent service indicator is an example of a pure software development l The microprocessor of the ISU incorporates a modelling of oil consumption forecast for a given number of engine revolutions, according to conditions of usage l For oil change intervals, the elapsed time, the number of engine revolutions and the variations of oil temperature experienced will be taken into account l The microprocessor therefore counts down the remaining number of engine revolutions and converts them to the remaining kilometres to be covered l This control, more effective for the customers, reinforces engine protection since it is more closely related to actual operating conditions throughout the life of the car, thanks to the intelligent service indicator l The microprocessor of the ISU incorporates a modelling of oil consumption forecast for a given number of engine revolutions, according to conditions of usage l For oil change intervals, the elapsed time, the number of engine revolutions and the variations of oil temperature experienced will be taken into account l The microprocessor therefore counts down the remaining number of engine revolutions and converts them to the remaining kilometres to be covered l This control, more effective for the customers, reinforces engine protection since it is more closely related to actual operating conditions throughout the life of the car, thanks to the intelligent service indicator

99066PSA39 ASIC DEVELOPMENT l The budget for multiplexing electronics is given partly by the number of deleted wires. According to continuous decrease of electronic cost, it can be expected VAN-IO8 down to VAN IO2 ( 8 to 2 inputs /outputs ) applications as well as VAN-mix ( 1 analog to digital input, 1 pwm output ) for smart sensors

99066PSA41 SAFETY ENHANCEMENTS l BUS REDUNDANCY Safety critical applications, it has been proposed to use two redundant busses. Combination of VAN & CAN busses offers the maximum safety due to the fact that both the protocols and the chips have been designed independently l TTP on VAN PHYSICAL LAYER For very safety critical applications, it has been proposed TTP (Time Trigger Protocol) which is based on a TDMA (Time Distributed Multi Access) concept in combination with bus redundancy Due to VAN characteristics (fault tolerant bus, point to point acknowledgement, in frame response, deterministic behaviour), TTP on VAN physical layers and VAN chips is under analysis l BUS REDUNDANCY Safety critical applications, it has been proposed to use two redundant busses.
