1 JewishGen Hungarian Special Interest Group 2008 Report

2 Mission JewishGen's Hungarian Special Interest Group (H-SIG) is for those with Jewish roots in the area known as "greater Hungary" or pre-Trianon Hungary and covers all those areas that were part of Hungary before World War I. This includes all of present-day Hungary and Slovakia and lands that are now within Romania, the Ukraine, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia.

5 H-SIG Activities H-SIG Discussion Group Transcription projects to support the All Hungary Database Promoting development of Hungarian Shtetlinks Sponsoring IAJGS conference sessions H-SIG luncheon and annual business meeting

6 2007 -2008 Accomplishments H-SIG is unique because all of our projects are accomplished by volunteers (rather than paid transcribers). During the past year our volunteers have: Added more than 100,000 new records to the AHD Updated the H-SIG website with new information Created and expanded Shtetlinks for Miskolc, Kormend, Nagymegyer, Chabanivka and Vishni Bystra.

7 All Hungary Database History 3/2003AHD goes live with 45,000 records 4/2004AHD 1 yr old with 140,000 records 3/2005AHD 2 yrs old with over 240,000 records 3/2006AHD 3 yrs old with over 350,000 records 7/2007AHD 4+ years old with over 550,000 records 7/2008AHD includes over 660,000 records with more to come!

10 New Records Being Added: Bezi, Budapest, Csenger, Eger, Gyomore, Gyongyos (Partial), Hodasz, Jarmi, Kemecse, Kosice, Koszeg, Mateszalka, Miskolc, Moson, Presov (Partial), Sobrance, Stropkov (Partial), Szeged (Partial), and Vag Besztercze. New Towns to be Transcribed: Ajak, Apagy, Balkany, Budapest, Dunajska Streda, Mako, Miskolc, Oroszvar, Papa, Presov (Remainder), Rajka, Sopron, Stropkov (Remainder), and Szeged (Remainder). Towns Under Consideration: Baja, Balassagyarmat, Bartfa/Bardejov, Bekescsaba, Bonyhad, Gyongyos, Nagykanizsa, Nyitra, Pecs, Szekesfehervar, Szombathely, and Vranov nad Toplou.
