Properties of a magnet A magnet is a piece of material that has the ability to attract magnetic materials. Every magnet has a north and south pole. Like poles repel each other Unlike poles attract each other Magnets attract magnetic materials such as iron, steel, cobalt, and nickel.
3
Methods of making a magnet
By stroking By using electricity
4
The stroking method
5
The electric method
6
Different shapes of magnets
Bar magnet Horse shoe magnet U-shape magnet Button magnet Ring magnet
7
Electromagnets Electromagnets:
-Used in scrap yards to pick up and move heavy pieces of metal -Used inside a doorbell to allow the hammer to hit the bell
8
Uses of magnets On the fridge door(permanent): To stick notes on the door Fridge door(permanent): To keep the fridge are tight Vacuum cleaner(temporary): To allow the cleaner to suck things Credit cards(permanent): To store data
9
Uses of magnets Video-recording devices (permanent): To record sounds and images Our Mac Book (permanent): To close our Mac tightly High speed train (powerful electromagnet): To lift, guide, and move the train. This reduces friction which allows the train to be fast.

Magnets in a speaker Contains permanent magnet as well as electromagnet. The electromagnet is formed by a coil of wire The magnetic field of the coil interacts with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet. This creates a force that moves to the coil. This process conveys amplified sound that is received as an electrical signal in the speaker

Magnetic Field Lines When you are drawing magnetic field lines, the direction of the arrows are always going from north to south. Magnetic fields are the region around the magnet where other magnetic material will experience a force. Telsa(T) is the unit of magnetic-field strength. When the field lines are close together at a point, the point is said to have a strong magnetic field. Field lines never cross.
