Home and School Communication Communication between school & home E-mail/newsletter/website Reception notice board PLEASE CHECK REGULARY Informs parents and reminds students of the events that are coming up in the school calendar.

Reception Events for Term 1 Swimming Weeks 5 & 6 (8.00 – 9.30am) Family afternoon Tea Week 6 – Wednesday (4-6pm)

Combined Reception Activities Combined activities happen at 2-3 times a week. Sharing teaching ideas and practices. Encourages and continues friendships between the children in both Reception classes. Allows the children the opportunity to work with and become familiar with all teachers in Reception.

Literacy Integrated into our everyday teaching UOI focus Sound of the week Handwriting/letter formation Journal writing (pictures with annotations) Daily DEAR time Show and tell (involves all aspects of language) Class discussions and morning talk Sight words

Numeracy UOI focus Counting Recognising and writing numbers Measurement (days of the week, routines etc, non-standard units of measure) Simple addition and subtraction Basic chance and data Classifying and naming 2D and 3D shapes We focus on teaching the strategies for your children use in the future! Teaching with the PYP focus in mind

Reading Children read in school and bring readers home 4 days a week. Reader bags need to come back to school everyday. Contents of Reader bag –reader, sight word card/s, reading strategies book mark Homework – daily reading. Library bags (Thursdays). Are you interested in participating in our morning reading program?

Routine Morning routine: - Reader bags - Water bottles - Lunch orders - Drink and toilet - Settle down Show and Tell Morning tea and lunch times EOD routine: Tidy working area - Collect reader bags - Collect any notices/work to go home - Pack bags and wait for the bell. All routines encourage children to take responsibility for their belongings, actions and learning.

PMP P erceptual M otor Development P rogram Continuation of program from ECH2. Develops fine and gross motor skills through physical activities. Activities help develop co-ordination, balance and strengthen muscles in hands, arms which make a difference in their writing.

Swimming Reception swimming program begins week 5 Monday –Thursday (8- 9.30am) for two weeks. Return your note by Friday the 30 th of January. Feel free to contact us or the PE teachers if you have any concerns or questions.
