3 Engagement with the Theme Two main types of activity: A.Large, theme-related events + central, university-wide initiatives B.Funding for theme-related projects proposed by staff and students

5 Small project funding Available to students as well as staff Available all year round – rolling monthly call £500 for single-School/Unit project, £1000 for collaborative project

6 39 projects funded, to date 15 Schools/Departments 6 Units 2 Student Societies That’s ¾ of all Schools, and all student- facing units 30% were student-led; 15% entirely student-driven

7 Undergraduate History Conference Chemistry Higher Practical Assessments tool Academic Skills Workshops for sub- Honours students in History The third project also exemplifies the flow between large and small projects …

8 From small to large and back again… Academic Skills Workshops by PGs for UGs – Picked up by Head of Student Development at celebratory/dissemination event – Endorsed and supported by Proctor (VPLT) – Rollout to all Arts Schools AY14-15; Science Schools in AY15-16 – Tailored to each School – Support from CAPOD

9 From small to large and back again… Mapping Geographies of Teaching & Learning: Diversity at Sub-Honours – Staff led, collaborative (IR and English), Nov 2012 – UG students as researchers – “Is teaching … reflective of voices and scholarship from BME groups, the global South and gender studies?” – Led to Open Forum on Diversity in Learning and the Academy, April 2014

10 From small to large and back again… Using Feedback Effectively – Open Forum on Feedback for Learning, Dec 2012 Anne MacNab from Edinburgh Napier – Method piloted in Classics and Computer Science in semester 1 AY2013-14 – Planned rollout in AY2014-15
