4. What it consists of… You need to show development of ideas and exploration. The easiest and best way to do this is to use two images (or more) (can be different sizes) where one is a close up and different view of something from the first image. EG. If you had a shot of a basement with a spider web in the corner in your first image, the second image could be a close up of the spider web with some detail you hadn’t seen before, eg. A key wound up in the spider web. You could also do two images that are connected thematically rather than a close up of something.

5. Graphic novels Graphic novel can be a good option for many students because even though you have to create multiple images, it is easier to get a higher mark. You still need to include symbolism and multiple ideas, but you can be slightly more straightforward with your approach.

6. Exemplars We’ll look at some exemplars from last year. Try and guess what grade the static images will have received, and why. Based on these images, what should you avoid? Clutter – no cohesion Only one image – harder to show development and multiple ideas Messy or untidy – particularly with things like lettering – you can take these home to work on them to make sure it looks as crisp and neat as possible

8. Lets look at some images to spark your imagination...  What ideas,  thoughts,  judgements,  critiques,  and themes are brought to mind when you see these images.

22. How do we put these ideas onto paper?  What are the tools, techniques, structures, systems, styles and conventions I can use to get my ideas into a visual image?????

27. Generic techniques...  Boarders  Empty space  Layout - breaking out from the box / space  Perspective and proportions  Duality: images, puns, quotes, ideas that can mean two different things.  Presentation: tidy, clean and sharp unless ‘mess’ is vital to your message.

30. What is the relevance of these ideas to you, your context and your interpretation of the texts?  e.g.. the duality of Ripely’s character; being two faced, not true to himself.  How do these messages relate to you as friends, teenagers, sons and daughters, boyfriends / girlfriends?  - making these ideas relevant to your situation will prompt further ideas, symbols and sayings.

31. Statement of intent All static images and graphic novels should be accompanied by a SOI. This should introduce the themes that your SI/GN is addressing. It also should pinpoint great features, colour, choices, layout etc of your visual. In the past students on the cusps of grades have had their SOI used to grade decide. It will probably be between 200-300 words and it should sell your work.
