2. Olive Press  The Hebrew word is a compound word, i.e. 2 Hebrew words joined  Gat – a place for pressing (oil or wine)  Shemanim – oils  Combined we get Gethsemane  The heavy stone squeezed the oil out of the olives

5. Gethsemane  In a way, while in the olive grove near the olive press, a “gethsemane”  Jesus felt the weight of the world’s sins on himself like the weight of the stone press on the olives

As long as I live, I will call to him when I need help.”  Vss 3-4 “The ropes of death tightened around me, the snares of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted with trouble and sorrow. I called on the name of the Lord, “Please Lord, rescue my life!””

10. Psalm 116  Vss 12-14 “How can I repay the Lord for all his acts of kindness to me? I will celebrate my deliverance, and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people.”

11. Psalm 118  Vs 1 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good and his loyal love endures!”  Vss 5-7 “In my distress I cried out to the Lord. The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place. The Lord is on my side, I am not afraid! What can people do to me? The Lord is on my side as my helper. I look in triumph on those who hate me.”

12. Psalm 118  Vs 13-14 “You aggressively attacked me and tried to knock me down, but the Lord helped me. The Lord gives me strength and protects me; he has become my deliverer.”

13. Isaiah 11 – A Prophecy  Vss 1-3 “A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s root stock, a bud will sprout from his roots. The Lord’s spirit will rest on him – a spirit that gives extraordinary wisdom, a spirit that provides the ability to execute plans, a spirit that produces absolute loyalty to the Lord. He will take delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by mere appearances, or make decisions on the basis of hearsay.”

15. Olive Trees  Roots can live for more than 1,000 years!  Tree seldom grows more than 20 ft tall  When old and no longer producing fruit it is cut down

16. Olive Trees  When old and no longer producing fruit it is cut down  May have produced for 100s of years  A stump is left  The next year new shoots/sprouts will appear

17. Olive Trees & Israel  God cut down the unfruitful people/olive tree of Israel  He promised that from that stump a shoot, the Messiah would grow
