nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk JDAT – Monitoring Over the next few slides we aim to give you some information to help you understand and successfully complete your monitoring.

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Monitoring Every 6 months Contractual obligation 75% needed to be valid exercise Results within 15 working days

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk So How is Monitoring Done? Most Trust will use an online system called DRS – You will be sent email with login details and also some guidance of how to use the system. Some trust will use paper diary cards

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk To Complete Monitoring Successfully Understand your rota and shift pattern Understand Rest Understand Natural Breaks

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Rota/Shift Type Full Shift – In hospital working – No rest just Natural Breaks On call – Work 9-5 then go home and on-call from home (but might occasionally get called in). – In the 24 hours you must have a period of rest. – Your have more hours on duty than you do working.

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Rest NOT paid for rest Best method – consider as on-call, home and asleep Natural Breaks Natural breaks are NOT counted as rest. Natural Breaks are paid. You get them, or you don’t Trainees who are not on an on-call rota should leave rest as 0hrs on monitoring

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Monitoring - How 1.Put in day type 2.Start and End Time 3.No rest unless on call from home 4.Resident 5.Natural Break 6.Work Episodes 7.Notes

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Put in day type – Standard – Full Shift – On call – Zero/rest day – Leave

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Start and End Time – Enter start of work time – Enter end of work time – If 24 hour on call then enter for example start 9:00 and end 9:00

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Rest – Only enter if working from off site – on call from home. – Not Natural Break. – Generally full shift/standard day will not include rest

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Resident Keep box ticked if working on site Untick box if working from home (i.e. on call)

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Natural Break - NB If you have been able to get 30 minutes break approximately every 4 hours then tick box – Standard 8 hour day should have 1 – Long full shift 12 hour should have 2

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Work Episodes This is only for on- call shifts – Enter episodes when working out of hours

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Notes You do not have to enter any notes but it is sensible to do. – Helps explain why unable to get natural breaks or working over hours – As it can be difficult to remember if questioned weeks and may be months later Click Save Notes

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Monitoring - How Then Press Save After each days entry!

nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk Still Confused or Uncertain! Useful BMA document if work full shift rota. – http://bma.org.uk/- /media/Files/PDFs/Practical%20advice%20at %20work/Contracts/monitoringguidance.pdf http://bma.org.uk/- /media/Files/PDFs/Practical%20advice%20at %20work/Contracts/monitoringguidance.pdf Or ask a friend! – nwd.jdat@nw.hee.nhs.uk
