2 Le Pierre Tombale You must create a tombstone (Pierre Tombale) for the famous dead French figure you choose. you will do your research, find decorative items for the tombstone, design and produce the tombstone. What: Research Project for French class! When: Research done during French class and at home Due: November 3 / 4 2014 at the beginning of class What you need : ► Materials to create the tombstone (cardboard or poster board…be creative) ► Decorations for the tombstonethat adequately represent the person whom you are researching ► scissors, markers, glue, tape, paper, etc. ►While you will have time to work on this during one class, most of the work for this project will need to be done outside of class.

3 What is a tombstone or headstone? ● A inscribed or engraved marker for the burial place of a deceased individual What is a death mask? ● A wax or plastic mask made of a person’s face following a person’s death. Death masks may be kept as mementos or were often used as still models for portraits

9 Grading… In your research you must answer the questions: Who – were they (did their real name differ from their celebrity name? Were they born into nobility?)? What - did they do? What did they contribute to society during their lifetime or after? What obstacles did they face in their quests? When – were they born, when did they live, rise to fame, get published, start a war, end a war, become king (or queen), die? etc. Where – were they born, did they live, did they study, were they trained, did they invade a country, did they die? Etc. How – did they accomplish all their fame, how did they die, how did they change history, art, health, education, sports, life? Etc. Why - did they do what they did? Why are they important in history, society, science, math, health, medicine?

10 Grading… How do you show/tell me that you have understood the essence of this person? 1.Tombstone–should adequately relate to the life (and/or death) of this person and whatever importance they had in history. The care with which you demonstrate your knowledge is VERY important. Show me! 2.Bits of info – these are the questions that you have to answer (previous slide) and you need to accurately and adequately post those in an acceptable fashion on the tombstone/death mask 3.Monologue – You will deliver a written and spoken monologue (to be memorized) about this person’s life. Write it in the 1 st person. You will be given extra points if you choose to dress up as this person and present as though you are them.

12 Grading… You will be graded on each item of this project. You will receive a project grade as well as separate writing and speaking grades. This project will count as two IB grades as well. (Writing and Speaking) You will receive a separate daily participation grade for any class day we work on this project. All late projects will receive a maximum grade of an 80. For projects turned in more than one school day late the maximum grade will be a 50.

13 Grading… Rubric - 300 points total – first grades of the 2 nd quarter Research – 100 pointsMonologue– 100 pointsProduct – 100 points ( A) 100 -93– research is thorough, complete and accurate. All questions have been addressed. Information is written in your own words. Adequately represented in/on the project product. ( A) 100 -93– French is correct and adequate. All topics have been addressed and spelling, accents are correct. Rich use of language. ( A) 100 -93–Project product.is creative and neat. It accurately and adequately depicts the life of the individual. (B) 92-86 – research is adequate and most of the questions have been answered. All information is in your own words. Information that is on project products is mostly adequate (B) 92-86 – French is mostly correct and adequate. Most of the topics have been addressed. Good use of language, only minor errors in spelling and grammar. (B) 92-86 – Project product is mostly creative and neat. It is mostly accurate and mostly depicts the life of the individual. (C) 85-77 – research is not adequate and many of the questions have not been answered. Though the information is in your own words, it is not a sufficient amount of information. Information is not adequately presented on project products. (C) 85-77 – French is somewhat correct and adequate. Some topics have been addressed. Language is basic and there are many errors with language which do tend to distort clear comprehension of the topic.. (C) 85-77 – Project product is somewhat creative and neat. It somewhat depicts the life of the individual. (D) 76-70 – research is not adequate and most of the questions have not been answered. Some information has been Information is in your own words, but spelling and grammar mistakes ruin the content. Information that is on project products is not adequate. (D) 76-70 – Very little French is correct but it is not adequate. Many of the topics have not been addressed. There are many spelling, accent and grammar errors. (D) 76-70 – Project product is not creative nor neat. It does not accurately and adequately depict the life of the individual. (F) 70-50 – research is not accurate most of the questions have not been answered. Much of the information is clearly not your work. Information that is on project products is not adequate. (F) 70-50 – French is not correct nor adequate. Most of the topics have not been addressed. Whatever French is used is incorrect and/or incomprehensible. (F) 70-50 – Project product shows no care or concern and is sloppy and undone.
