5 State of Australian Farming  40% reduction in farmers since 2000, 270,000 farmers left, 50% reach 65 by 2018  100,000 full-time farm workers needed, likely to reach 200,000 in 10 years  Only 8 agriculture education providers, down from 23 in 1980’s  70% increase in global food demand by 2050 (UN Forecast)

6 Agricultural Labour An opportunity  Tailored skills training program through TAFE  Intensive OH&S Training and Assessment  All programs will use bi-lingual trainers to improve outcomes  Ongoing training during off-season, including Cert II and III Agriculture courses in partnership with TAFE NSW  Long-term focus building careers in farming

8 Nursing Resources Needed  Australia needs 80,000-145,000 new nurses by 2025 to meet its ageing population  Partnership with TAFE NSW will offer CERT II & III, plus intensive practical skills training  Development of community care agency

9 Hospitality A flexible option

10 Hospitality Flexible Options  Australia needs 36,000 hospitality workers urgently  Looking to attract additional 56,000 immigrants with hospitality skills into Australia by 2015 on 457 visas.  Partnership with TAFE NSW to build CERT II and III courses in hospitality, plus intensive skills training course for new migrants with food skills.

12 Subsidy to support workers  $6 per hour subsidy for 30-40 weeks/yr., 2 consecutive years.  Total subsidy cost $15,000  Substantial income tax generated reduces costs  Total government saving of 69%-85% over 2 years versus government benefits  Assets of $20,000+ for workers after living expenses deducted  Work experience, references and career choices for new migrants A WIN-WIN for Everyone

13 Labour Hire Agency  Protects rights of workers and ensures they receive full award wages and training  Protects safety of workers through an OH&S assessment of all worksites.  Partners with corporates to develop career pathways for its staff  Provides interest-free loans to staff to fund training and assessment  30% of profits reinvested back into community programs

14 What next?  Develop employment & training subsidy programs with State & Federal Governments  Build partnership with Rotary Australia and NFF to champion employment in agricultural communities  Build partnerships with Private hospital sector and health & aged care providers  Establish office in Western Sydney, build labour hire agency & OH&S platform  Formalize training programs with TAFE
