] Introducing The Smallpeice Trust Presentation to students

What is Engineering? 20/08/20152 … the application of maths and science to create something of value from natural resources. “Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create a world that never has been.” Theodore Von Karman (Aerospace engineer)

Creative Engineering Inventions

What career might suit you? Are you interested in helping to make people with disabilities life’s easier? Biomedical engineering Are you interested in helping to make our planet a more sustainable one? Low carbon energy Are you interested in designing building and maintaining structures Civil or structural engineer Are you interested in a life at sea working creating or maintaining many different types of ship Naval architecture

Who is The Smallpeice Trust? An independent educational charity promoting worthwhile careers in Engineering, Design, Technology, Science & Mathematics to young people nationwide Founded 47 years ago by Dr Cosby Smallpeice −Pioneering engineer and inventor −Founded Martonair which specialised in pneumatic equipment Dr Cosby Smallpeice was aware of the growing skills gap in engineering and wanted to demonstrate to young people just how beneficial and rewarding a career in engineering can be 1896-1977

Our aim is to: Enhance perceptions of engineering as a worthwhile and dynamic career, and its importance with regard to sustainability, the environment, and low carbon technology. Give 10-18 year olds an understanding of the career opportunities within engineering Develop your skills and knowledge of engineering

Residential Courses 3-5 day residential courses at universities and other inspiring venues Designed for students in Years 8 to 12 Practical projects working with real-life engineers Take place around the Easter and summer holidays 38 courses covering subjects such as biochemical engineering, marine technology, motorsports engineering, naval architecture and supercomputing

Why should I attend a Smallpeice course? Gain a real insight into the fascinating world of engineering Learn and get great career advice from engineers from leading companies such as Babcock, Jaguar Land Rover, Microsoft and National Grid Discover what life is like at university and stay on campus Develop your skills and enhance your CV Work with materials and equipment not usually available at school Make new friends and have FUN!

Where you could be staying

Who you could be working with

The social scene Plenty of fun activities like, bowling, sports, film night and quiz night, formal course dinner and disco! A great way to make new friends too!

What other students say about our courses? “My experiences of the Smallpeice course are invaluable. They will help me in the future by preparing me for university and giving me a secure pathway to follow. I have made new friends and have gained a life-changing experience forever”, Micaela Briscoe, Oldfield School I would highly recommend a Smallpeice course to anyone and everyone who has even the tiniest interest in engineering and going to university in general. This is because you are given an ample supply of information on the chosen course and you spend your nights at university residence which gives you a taste of university life”, William Simpson, St Bede’s College “Inspirational, exciting, fun and yet demanding are the words that sum up this Smallpeice Trust course. This amazing course gave me the opportunity to work with like-minded students who also had a genuine passion for materials and engineering”, Gemma Francis, Alderley Edge School for Girls
