1 ADOPT-A-PRECINCT (AAP) Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Orlando Health Group ORANGE COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS Wycliffe Discovery Center

2 Purpose  The Adopt-A-Precinct partnership is designed to provide community organizations and businesses with an opportunity to participate in the elections process in Orange County  A great fund raiser – Supervisor of Elections writes a check to the entity as opposed to individual poll workers  Promotes your organization or business within the community  Great team building experience ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 2

3 History  1998 – implemented in Orange County  2000 - 25 partner groups participated  2002 – 53 partner groups participated  2002 – Florida Legislature pass new legislation requiring all Supervisors of Elections across the state to develop similar relationships with the business community Chapter 102.014 (6), Florida Statutes  2014 – Over $197,000 was distributed to 66 organizations participating in the Adopt-A-Precinct partnership ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 3

4 Advantages  Promote your organization/business for free  We display a sign with your organization/business name outside the polling place  We encourage your group to wear their logo shirt’s or colors  You already know each other  Pot luck – breakfast, lunch, dinner ( food delivered by others within your organization)  Great fundraiser  Excellent team building experience ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 4

5 Fundraiser 2014 (2 Elections)  Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity $9,300 (4 precincts)  Since 2010 raised over $27,600  Scholarship Program  Pershing Avenue Christian Church $2,900 (1)  Winter Park High School Lacrosse Boosters $2,900 (1)  Emmanuel Episcopal Church $2,900 (1)  First Unitarian Church $2,400 (1)  Winter Garden Lions Club $4,000 (1-P) & 2 (G) ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 5

6 2016 Elections ADOPT-A-PRECINCT  March 15, 2016 – Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) Municipal Election Day  August 30, 2016 – Florida Primary  November 8, 2016 – Presidential Election 6

7 Requirements ADOPT-A-PRECINCT  AAP Coordinator assigned a Precinct Service Clerk (PSC) at the Election Office  AAP Coordinator responsible for recruiting Election Board  AAP Coordinator responsible for meeting deadlines  AAP Contracts  AAP Board sheets  Verify Board attends training  Orange County registered voter (VSI & HDOP excluded)  16+ pre registered only 2 under 18 can work at a time 7

8 Requirements  Election Board Staff 7 (minimum)  Poll Clerk (1)  Deputy (1)  ePoll (3)+  Help Desk Oath Person (HDOP) (1) +  Voting Systems Inspector (VSI) (1) +  Back-up’s (at least 2)  Bi-lingual Spanish workers as needed ( Based on precinct assigned) ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 8 + Will increase each 2016 Election cycle

9 Election Board  Poll Clerk  Supervises the Election Board  Picks up supplies (Saturday before Election day)  Returns supplies to collection site night of Election day  Fill’s in for poll workers while on break/lunch/dinner  Voting Systems Inspector (VSI)  Responsible for setting up tabulator  Responsible for setting up ADA voting machine  Responsible for modeming results to Elections office  Assists with polling room set-up/break down ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 9

10 Election Board  Help Desk Oath Person (HDOP)  Assist voters with exceptions  Name change  Address change  Provisional ballot  Assists with polling room set-up/break down  ePoll Book Inspector  Check-in voters  Issues ballots  Assists with polling room set-up/break down ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 10

11 Election Board  Poll Deputy  Background check - Must be cleared through the Orange County Sheriffs office  Initially greets voters  Maintains order “Outside” polling place  Enforces 100 foot non-solicitation zone ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 11

12 Training ADOPT-A-PRECINCT  Training is required prior to each election (Section 102.014 (1) Fla. Stat.)  New Poll Clerks – All day Saturday Class (includes lab and lunch)  All other classes may be from 4 – 6 hours in length (Depending on assigned position)  Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Saturday classes available  Hands on training using actual election day equipment 12
