9 Client Coverage Background
Commodity Traders Energy Metals & Mining Agri Finance COMMODITY CORPORATES Structured Agri Finance/SAF Products/System launched in October 2006. Korea is the third largest economy in Asia, smaller only than China and Japan and the 10th biggest economy in the world. It is one of the fastest growing big economies with an annual real GDP growth forecast of 4.5% over the next few years. Korea is also one of the largest banking markets in our footprint, particularly in Consumer Banking, reflecting both the wealth of the population and the scale and dynamism of the corporate sector. We have been in this market a long time. We opened our first branch more than 100 years ago. We have a well-established, successful Wholesale Banking business and have been building the Consumer Banking business. Korea First Bank (KFB) opens a new chapter in our history in Korea. It gives us a powerful position in the country and immediately provides us with scale, a significant market presence, a national network and – most importantly – a platform for growth. KFB is a well-managed, conservatively run bank with a solid franchise, good branch network, talented management team and solid workforce. The acquisition represents another big step in realising our ambition to be the world’s best international bank.
