3 Symptoms  Swollen lymph nodes  Lymphocyte  Irregular bowel movements  Bulgy eyes  Effected easily by hear  Swollen shins with red bumps  Brittle bones  Tiredness  Muscle weakness  Irregular heart beat  Tachycardia  Tremors in hands and fingers  Moodiness  Irritability  Anxiety  Insomnia  Slight weight loss  Menstrual cycle change  Brittle hair  No symptoms

4 Treatments  Beta Blockers-reduce the hormones effect  Commonly reduce accelerated heartbeat, anxiety, and tremors  Used in addition to other treatments  Anti-thyroid Drugs-reduce the hormones being released from thyroid  Can completely relieve symptoms(may come back over time)  Liver damage may occur  Takes several months

5 Treatments Continued  Radioactive iodine treatment-kills parts of the thyroid gland that have overly active cells  Radioactive iodine is excreted in saliva and urine  Small thyroid= not as many hormones  Risk of making symptoms and disease worse  Can’t be given to pregnant women  Surgery-removal of thyroid gland  Risk of damaging other glands or vocal cords  Commonly used when disease develops during pregnancy  Usually a last resort treatment

Impaired thyroid produces too much Thyroxin(T3 and T4) and other hormones 5. The abundance of hormones alters the usual metabolic rate 6. The high metabolic rate causes symptoms
