Multiplication Property of Equality The multiplication property of equality states that When you multiply each side of an equation by the same number the two sides remain equal Example 8 = 8 (-2)8 = 8(-2) -16 = -16 Note: It does not matter what number you multiply each side by the end result is that both sides will be equal!

8. Example k = 9 3 (3) k = 9(3) 3 k = 27 In this instance you begin working on the left because that is where the variable is… Multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the denominator of 3 Which leaves you with the answer of k = 27

Division Property of Equality Like the other properties…the division property of equality states When you divide each side of an equation by the same number both sides will remain the same Example: 3x = -12 3 x = -4 Again, it does not matter what number you divide each side by, both sides will remain equal
