Pains and challenges Kevin I need my sales people to focus on selling, not data entry I need the data between Dynamics AX and Dynamics CRM to be in sync Isaac I need additional fields that are in Dynamics AX added to the default maps I need to know when something fails so I can fix it immediately I need certain data to be as up to date as possible in Dynamics CRM Nandita I need to create my own adapters since the existing Connector adapters don’t cover the complex business needs of my company

Concepts & Definitions Adapter – A software component that enables data exchange through a specific transport. Connector for Microsoft Dynamics uses adapters to read data from and write data to Microsoft Dynamics systems. Entity – A type of record in a Microsoft Dynamics system. Orders, invoices, accounts, customers, products, or items are all examples of an entity. Integration – The process of synchronizing data that was entered in one Microsoft Dynamics application with another Microsoft Dynamics application. Within the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics product, an integration consists of a set of maps that can be run to integrate Microsoft Dynamics CRM entities with Microsoft Dynamics AX entities and vice versa. Map – A collection of associations between fields in one Microsoft Dynamics CRM entity with fields in another Microsoft Dynamics AX entity. Maps also determine in which direction data flows from a given entity, and defines which adapter is the source and which adapter is the destination.

Top 10 Tips from the Session Configuration utility must be run once to get up and running Determine if you need to update the pre-defined maps or go with the defaults Maps must be created for both directions (Dynamics AX to Dynamics CRM and Dynamics CRM to Dynamics AX) Creating customers and orders at the same time may result in integration failures but will be picked up with Connectors retry functionality To improve load performance, schedule maps for entities that aren’t changed often to run less often The Continuous option for scheduling a map doesn’t mean “real time,” it means the map will run again after the current run is complete In order to see new fields after a customization, Connector must be closed, then re-opened Scaling adjustments need to be made in either the Dynamics AX services or Dynamics CRM services. Customizations of either Dynamics AX or Dynamics CRM are handled using the configuration utility Use the SDK for complex business requirements not covered by the existing Connector adapters
