Parts of an Ecosystem Power Point
On the Jack Pine Forest Ecosystem By: Taylor Schaer

Organism My organism is the endangered Kirtland's warbler, it one of the rarest members of the wood warbler (Parulidae) family. They live for about two years, and they eat insects and ripe blue berries. They migrate to the Bahamas, and stay there during fall and winter seasons. Definition: Any living thing.

Population The Kirtland’s warbler lives in Michigan, a little of Wisconsin, Ohio, and a little of Ontario. They are rare because they have very specific habitat conditions. They are ground nesters, so they need dry land, a large are of Jack Pine forest, with shrubs, and tall grasses. They like to nest in grayling sand, because it rarely floods. The population of Kirtland’s warblers in Michigan varies from record lows of 167 in 1974 and 1987, then the number increased to a record high of 1,828 in Scientists believe that for every male there is a female, there are many Kirtland’s warblers in Michigan. Definition: A group of organisms of the same species living in the same area at the same time.

Community There are many different types of organisms in the Jack Pine ecosystem. Some of them plants are, the Jack Pine, the Northern Pin Oak, and Blueberries. Some of the common animals are, the Kirtland’s warbler, the Badger, the Eastern Bluebird, and the Green snake. One popular insect in the Jack Pine Ecosystem is the Black Carpenter ant. Definition : A group of different populations that live together and interact in an enviornment. All the living and non-living factors in an ecosystem.

Ecosystem The Kirtland’s warbler only nests in the Jack Pine ecosystem, they nest under the Jack Pine trees. Many other animals live there too. The biotic factors (animals and plants) interact with the abiotic factors ( rocks, water, soil, sunlight, sky). An example of that is the Black Carpenter ants living in the ground, the trees in the ground, and any type of fish that could be in a stream in the Jack Pine Ecosystem. Definition: All the living and non-living things in an ecosystem. They are the non-living components of an ecosystem. The abiotic factors are, rocks, wind, water, soil, temprature, and sunlight.
