2 His Life Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858.
He was born and raised in New York City. Roosevelt was first married in October of 1880. His wife Alice gave birth to a girl on February 12, 1884. Alice died two days after giving birth. He remarried his childhood sweetheart Edith Kermit Carow in 1886. Theodore never went to school, he was tutored by his family and a French Governess. He later attended Harvard and Columbia Law School. Theodore later died on January 6, He died from a blood clot in his heart.

3 Interesting Facts Theodore was interested in the study of nature. He always smelt of dead specimen as a child. His mother and aunt were Pro Confederacy and his father was Pro Union. He never liked or used the name or used Teddy, he preferred Teedie. Though Teedie grew up ill, in his teenage years he participated in gymnastics and weightlifting. Theodore was the first President to fly in an airplane. He took a four minute ride in a plane built by the Wright Brothers. Teedie was briefly a Sunday School teacher, but he believed strongly in the separation of church and state. He did not swear on the bible and he did not put “In God We Trust” on the $20 gold coin.

4 Political, business, and military experience
He dropped out of Columbia Law School to pursue a job in public service Theodore served as a member of the New York House of Representatives. Theodore moved out West when his mother and wife died, he bought two ranches over a thousand cattle. He also worked as a frontier sheriff during these times. When Teedie returned to life in the East, he continued his writing career, he wrote many books during this period. Theodore also began to work towards a political career, running for Mayor of New York City in 1886, which he didn’t win. In 1888 he campaigned for Republican presidential candidate Benjamin Harrison. When Harrison won he appointed Theodore to the U.S. Civil Service Commission, which he was re appointed to by Democratic President Grover Cleveland in 1893. Roosevelt served as a commissioner until he accepted the presidency of the New York City Police Board in 1895. In 1897, the new Republican President, William McKinley, appointed Roosevelt as the assistant secretary of the Navy. When the Spanish-American war began Teedie quit as the assistant secretary of the Navy and volunteered as the Commander of the Rough Riders. He returned as a war hero and was asked to run for New York Governor. He was elected on November 8, 1898.

5 Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency
Theodore first became president in 1901 when President McKinley was assassinated. He finished McKinley’s term as President and then was re elected as the eighth Republican President for his own term in Before he started his own term, Roosevelt worked on breaking up monopolies and used the White House as a “bully pulpit” and lectured the U.S. on how government should be. While campaigning for his first term he campaigned from his porch in Oyster Bay. Roosevelt was also given two million dollars from wealthy capitalists to help with his campaign. He won the electoral election with 336 votes. Teedie won every southern vote including Missouri. As President, Roosevelt thought that should have absolute power over conflicting economic forces in the Nation. He was greatly known as the “Trust Buster” because he forced the dissolution of a railroad combination in the Northwest. Theodore also ensured the construction of the Panama Canal because he saw the need for a shortcut between the Atlantic and the Pacific. Theodores V.P. was Charles W Fairbanks from Roosevelt served for two terms.

6 Life After Presidency After leaving office Theodore and his son Kermit went on a trip to the jungles of Brazil. During this trip Roosevelt contracted malaria and injured his leg in a boating accident. When he returned to America he spent his time writing scientific essays and history books. When WWII started in Europe, Roosevelt convinced the nation that we should joining the war effort. He offered to organize a volunteer division but the War Department turned him down. All of his sons fought in the war and when his youngest son Quentin was shot down, sadness overtook his life. He died in his sleep in his home in Oyster Bay on January 6, 1919.

7 A Summary Theodore Roosevelt is considered a very good President. Roosevelt broke up trusts and he had a great foreign policy which led to the independence of Panama. He was persistent which was one of his many strengths. But he was not the perfect man, he had many problems with his physical throughout his entire life.
