7 Warning: Several merit badges require specific, extended periods of time to complete. If the requirement says:   Meet with your counselor … Keep records for three months … You must meet with your counselor AT LEAST three months prior to your 18th birthday or you cannot complete the merit badge in time!  You cannot keep a record of your budget and spending for three months in only three weeks. To ask anyone to backdate merit badge requirements because of poor planning would violate the principles of the BSA and should invalidate the Eagle rank presented as a result of that action. This would be a terrible example to set for other Scouts.  R. C. Smith

10 Eagle Leadership ServiceProject  Purpose is to “DemonstrateLeadership of Others”  Must benefit community organization  other than Boy Scouts  May NOT benefit a commercial business  May NOT be a “fund raiser”  Must be planned and carried out by one Scout  no joint projects  Will take up to 6 months to complete - plan ahead!  May begin planning project immediately after passing Board of Review  (not necessary to earn all 21 merit badges first.) 12 Preparing the Project Proposal 1. It provides sufficient opportunity to meet the Eagle Scout service project requirement. You must show that planning, development, and leadership will take place; and how the three factors will benefit a religious institution, a school, or your community. 2. It appears to be feasible. You must show the project is realistic for you to complete. 3. Safety issues will be addressed. You must show you have an understanding of what must be done to guard against injury, and what will be done if someone does get hurt. 4. Action steps for further detailed planning are included. You must make a list of the key steps you will take to make sure your plan has enough details to be carried out successfully. 5. You are on the right track with a reasonable chance for a positive experience.       R. C. Smith

14 Eagle Leadership ServiceProjectPlan  Eagle Projects are required to be approved by the Beneficiary, Scoutmaster, Unit Committee Chair and District  The District may offer the eagle candidate the services of a District- certified eagle coach to assist in the planning of the project if one is not already assigned This approval will be for the proposal as called out in the new Eagle Service Project Book The Detail plans are completed by the scout prior to implementation As projects are planned, changes usually are necessary. If they are major, it is important to confirm they are acceptable to the beneficiary. You should also share major changes with those who approved your proposal, and also with your coach to be sure you still have a chance of passing the board of review.    R. C. Smith

15 Eagle Leadership ServiceProjectPlan  After completion of the detail planning as required in the eagle service project work book and fund raising as necessary, the project is implemented  The scout may use the District Eagle Project Check List (see next chart) as a guide to complete the detail plans  Upon completion, the scout must complete the final Report in the project work book  The completed workbook is presentedtothebeneficiaryandUnit Leaderforcompletionacceptance. 16 Eagle Application Process Complete all requirements  Write project final report (Make sure that the “After questions on Page 4 are answered) Complete Eagle Scout Application Submit Application & Project Final Report to: Troop Committee & Scoutmaster Meet with District Advancement Chair, Mr. John Fields Scouts records verified Completion”   Eagle Candidate provides reference forms to references for submittal to District Advancement Chair District Advancement Chair Notifies Scout of Board of Review Schedule Board of Review Approval Council approval of Application National approval of Application Scout notified of approval by District Advancement Chair Conduct Court of Honor   R. 21 Eagle Character Board of Review  Scheduled after all requirements complete and Council verifies records.  Conducted by Frontier District Advancement Committee  District Advancement Committee checks references  Troop Committee Members Should Participate Scoutmaster or Asst. Scoutmaster may not participate, except introduce the Scout  Eagle date of rank is date Board of Review is passed. to  Important if earning Eagle Palms   Scout should be in full Scout uniform  It is not a retest of knowledge or skills but a confirmation of the candidate’s leadership and character However, should know the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan and be ready to discuss how you live by them.  R. 22 Eagle Court of Honor  Special ceremony to recognize only Eagle Scout(s)  Conducted only after National approval  ~4-6 weeks after Board of Review  Planned and carried out by Troop and Parents  There is no required format -- we will tailor to Scouts and parents  Some items to consider:  Who to invite - up to the family  Date and time to accommodate schedule of special guests  Reserve church or other location  Reception decorations & refreshments - family responsibility  Letters from public officials - family’s choice  Photo album of Scouting career at reception please R.
