And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Dr. Tom Philips, “Statistics show that over the last 100 years less than half of ONE PERCENT of American and Canadian Christians have actually participated in international missions and gone out to work OVERSEAS.” 1.) THE MANDATE WE SHOULD FOLLOW

2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE Using the University Campus for World Evangelism

2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE How I Became a College Minister

of people raised in the church lose their faith by the age of 25. 75% of people who become Christians do so by the age of 25. 75%

“The Pentecost Parallel” 17.5 million American students and 1 million international students are gathering from all 50 of the United States and all 200 nations Universities in the USA People gathered from “every nation under heaven” (Acts 2:5) Jerusalem 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE

We Need a Paradigm Shift in our Missions Mentality 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE The University Approach to Missions: They come to us. The Traditional Approach to Missions: We go to them.

International Students Are Among the Future Leaders of the World 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE

Dr. Tom Phillips says, "It is perhaps the most practical and strategic way for the average American to have a long-term impact on the unreached people of our world. Few American Christians will go to live in the 10/40 window countries, yet the majority of these Americans live within a few minutes of a student from the 10/40 window." 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE

International Students Expect to Learn About Christianity from Americans 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE

Bill Bright, “Every soul is equally precious in God's sight, but not every soul is equally strategic.” Billy Graham, “Every Christian in America should help reach international students for Christ.” 2.) THE OPPORTUNITY WE SHOULD REALIZE

3.) THE PEOPLE WE SHOULD LOVE Developing Friendships with International Students

What Challenges Do International Students Face? Language: Bridging the gap between classroom language study and conversational skills, slang, idioms, puns, and jokes. Lack of Friendships: Surveys show that many don’t make a lasting American friendship. 3.) THE PEOPLE WE SHOULD LOVE Culture Shock: Feelings of surprise, disorientation, confusion, due to the difficulty of assimilating into a new social environment. Results: Frustration, homesickness, desire to withdraw, feelings of isolation and rejection.

Leviticus 19:33-34 “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself." 3.) THE PEOPLE WE SHOULD LOVE

Jesus is (kind of) an international student himself.

3.) THE PEOPLE WE SHOULD LOVE Dr. Tom Philips, “Statistics prove that among the international students who study in the U.S., historically 70% have never been invited to an American HOME during their stay. More than 85% are never invited to an American church or have any meaningful contact with genuine Christians during an average stay of FOUR years.”

4.) THE RESOURCES WE SHOULD UTILIZE Benefiting from the Knowledge & Experience of Others

5.) THE MINISTRIES WE SHOULD CONSIDER Implementing Programs and Recruiting Volunteers

2.) Invite Them To Hang Out 3.) Be A Friend, Whether They Express Interest in Christianity or Not 1.) Do What You Do With American Students 4.) Experiment With Programs 6.) Determine to Befriend ONE International Student This Year 5.) Cast the Vision & Enlist Volunteers 4.) THE MINISTRIES WE SHOULD ESTABLISH5.) THE MINISTRIES WE SHOULD CONSIDER

“I ______, as an advocate in the cause of reaching students to reach the nations, hereby accept the challenge of befriending one international student this year.”
