2 Distributor Re/Re print a firing order diagram from Mitchellprint a firing order diagram from Mitchell this will show the relative position of the distributor to the engine as well as the spark plug wire positionthis will show the relative position of the distributor to the engine as well as the spark plug wire position  notice the 4 screws and the little box on the lower side of the distributor… 2

3 Distributor Removal mark the location of the distributor body on the enginemark the location of the distributor body on the engine remove the distributor cap – leave the plug wires attached to capremove the distributor cap – leave the plug wires attached to cap mark the rotor position on the distributor bodymark the rotor position on the distributor body 3

4 Distributor Removal unbolt & remove the distributorunbolt & remove the distributor your distributor will driven with either a gear drive or an offset drive tang…your distributor will driven with either a gear drive or an offset drive tang… 4

5 Distributor Reinstallation reinstall the distributor by aligning the marksreinstall the distributor by aligning the marks  if gear driven, take into account the curvature of the drive gear adjust timing with a timing lightadjust timing with a timing light 5

6 Hey Roger, what about distributor-less & direct ignition? 6

7 Reinstalling a distributor that wasn’t marked… 1) remove spark plug from #1 cylinder 2) clean the timing mark 3) place your finger over the spark plug hole 4) “bump” the engine over – stop when you feel compression 5) turn the crankshaft pulley by hand until the timing notch is aligned with the TDC mark 6) reinstall the distributor so that the rotor is pointing to the #1 spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap 7) start the engine & adjust timing 7
