3 Alliteration Alliteration is a sound device. Alliteration occurs when an author begins a series of words with the same or similar sound. Alliteration is a type of figurative language that authors use to help the readers form pictures of the writing in their heads.

4 An Example of Alliteration Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

5 Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia is another type of figurative language. It is called a sound device. Onomatopoeia is when a word sounds like what it means. Like alliteration, onomatopoeia allows the readers to form pictures in their heads.
