5 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, Romans 15:4 so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. - Romans 15:4 2 Tim 3:15-17 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Tim 3:15-17 Opening Statement The OT is the NT Concealed while the NT is the OT Revealed!

10 How to Read the Old Testament 1.Read each book straight through (Do not necessarily read the Old Testament straight through.) 2. Realize that each book has a theme 3. Use a good translation. a) Rotate versions! b) You should be able to draw an “insight” from more than one translation.

11 3. Read according to the literary type. a) Narrative b) Law c) Poetry d) Prophecy e) Wisdom f) Apocalyptic How to Read the Old Testament (Cont.)

12 5. At 3 chapters a day, you can finish Old Testament in 10 months. 6. Memorize the order of the Old Testament books. 7. Experiment with deferent Old Testament reading plans. -Chronological -By Genre -By Testament -6 Months, One Year, etc.

13 The Bible as a Library It helps to view the entire Bible as a Library rather than just one Book

14 Every Biblical Book has a Theme The Question every Bible student should be asking is, Why is so and so Book in the Bible? An understanding of the several themes in each Book of the Bible will lead to a better appreciation of the content.
