4 4 Acquiring Pictures Using a Digital Camera Scanner and Camera Wizard – allows you to copy pictures from a digital camera to a folder on the computer you specify. Windows Images Acquisition (WIA) standard – includes application software designed for the camera, and connects to the computer using a USB, a SCSI, or an IEEE 1394 cable.

5 5 COPYING PICTURES FROM A DIGITAL CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER After purchasing a digital camera install the camera by connecting the digital camera to a USB port on the computer and turn on the camera Windows XP detects the connection of the camera to the USB port and starts the Scanner and Camera wizard.

6 6 SCANNING A DOCUMENT Scanner and Camera Wizard – also allows you to scan a document or a picture into the computer. Connect the scanner to a USB port on the computer and then turn on the scanner. Windows XP detects the connection of the scanner to the USB port and starts the Scanner and Camera wizard.

7 7 SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR PICTURES You can acquire pictures by searching the Internet using the Search Companion. Click the Start button. Click Search on the Start Menu. Click Search the Internet.

8 8 Drawing a Picture Using a Draw Program Paint – is an application program included with Windows XP that allows you to create and edit pictures. Bitmap image – is a graphical image and is saved using the.bmp file name extension and is identified by a Paint icon. Paint can be used to draw lines (straight, freeform, and curved) and objects (ellipses, circles, squares, and polygons), erasing lines or objects, applying and creating custom colors (background, foreground, and airbrush), entering and formatting text, and changing the size and position of a picture (rearrange, flip, and rotate).

9 9 LAUNCHING PAINT Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Paint.

10 10 LAUNCHING PAINT Tool Box – contains sixteen tools to create images. Color Box – contains a palette of twenty-eight colors to color images. The mouse is shaped like a pencil because the pencil tool is already selected in the tool box when Paint is started.

11 11 DRAWING LINES AND RECTANGLES The tools in the tool box allow you to draw pictures. Rectangle tool – allows you to draw a rectangles. Click the Rectangle tool in the tool box to use it. Line tool – allows you to draw lines. Line tool – allows you to draw lines. Click the Line tool in the tool box to use it. Holding down the SHIFT key while drawing a square ensures a square. Undo command – is on the Edit menu and allows you to undo what you just did. You can undo up to three actions but, it is best to use the Undo command immediately after you make an error.

12 12 ADDING COLOR TO AN IMAGE You select the colors to be used in the color box. When you click a color it becomes the foreground color. When you right-click a color it becomes the background color. Using color in a picture adds impact and usually makes it easier to read.

13 13 PLACING TEXT IN A BITMAP IMAGE Placing text in a picture requires the use of the Text tool. Drag to draw a text box. The dragged text box that displays defines where the text would be placed in the picture. The blinking insertion point in the text box defines where the first character would appear when you begin typing

14 14 SAVING A PAINT DOCUMENT AND CLOSING A WINDOW Click File on the menu bar and then click Save. Click the Close button

15 15 Shopping for Pictures Online Design Gallery Live – contains images, animations, photographs, and sound for use with Microsoft programs. Downloading these images results in a charge. MSN Photos – allows you to save an share photos on the Web, purchase customized photo gifts and digital cameras, order prints online, and view tips and tricks. May also charge a fee for images. BizPresenter.com – contains 60,000 pictures, cartoons, digital illustrations, and background templates for use in PowerPoint presentations and other Microsoft Office applications. A fee is charges for these images. Gettyworks.com – contains thousands of affordable photos, templates, clip art, and fonts. There are some free product samples available on this site.

16 16 Picture Tasks There are a variety of tasks you can perform on a picture file acquired from online. Using wizard you can perform three of these tasks they are: to print a picture, order a print of the picture online, and publish a file to the World Wide Web. URL allows other to view the picture using their Web browser program.

17 17 PRINTING A PICTURE Photo Printing Wizard – allows you to size, crop, rotate and print the picture. Quality pictures are achieved by using a high- quality glossy paper designed specifically for printing pictures, selecting the highest resolution setting on the printer, and then checking to make sure that the cartridge is aligned correctly.

18 18 ORDERING A PRINT ONLINE Order Prints Online Wizard – allows you to select a company to print the pictures, select the quantity and print size, and pay using a credit card..NET Passport - is a Microsoft service that allows you to create and remember only one user name a password and then use the passport to access computers and Internet sites that support.NET Passport.

23 23 PUBLISHING FILES TO AN MSN COMMUNITY MSN community – is an area designed for people with common interests. There are four types of communities on the Web –Public Community – can be viewed by anyone and membership in the community is open to anyone who wants to join –Public Restricted Community – can be viewed by anyone, but a manager or assistant manager must approve all application to join. –Private Community – can be viewed only by members and all application to join must be approved by a manager or assistant manager. –Private Unlisted Community - can be viewed only by members and membership is by invitation only. You must have a.NET Passport to visit a private MSN community.

24 24 PUBLISHING FILES TO AN MSN COMMUNITY Web Publishing Wizard – allows you to publish pictures and documents to an MSN community and allows others to view the pictures and documents you place in the community using their Web browser.

25 25 DELETING THE FOLDERS AND PICTURES IN THE MY PICTURES FOLDER Click the Start button and then click My Pictures on the Start menu Right-click the desired folder icon in the My Pictures window Click Delete on the shortcut menu Click the Yes button in the Confirm Folder Delete dialog box

26 26 DELETING AN MSN COMMUNITY Click the Start button Click Internet on the Start menu Type http://communities.msn.com in the Address box and then click the Go button Click the Sign In button in the MSN Communities – Microsoft Internet Explorer window If necessary, enter your user name, enter your password, and then click the Sign In button

27 27 DELETING AN MSN COMMUNITY Click the What’s New button Click the Manager Tools link Click the Adjust Your Community Settings link Click the Delete Community link Click the OK button in the Microsoft Internet Explorer window Close any open windows
